The Pink Smoke podcast

I’ve been listening to John and Christopher for years now and I can sincerely say that I have learned more about movies from listening to this podcast and visiting the Pink Smoke website than any other way I can think of.

It wasn't long before Phillip got lost. He looked around, but all he could see were trees. Nervously, he felt into his bag for his favourite toy, Ted, but Ted was nowhere to be found! Phillip began to panic. He felt sure he had packed Ted. To make matters worse, he was starting to feel hungry. Unexpectedly, he saw a naughty guppy dressed in a green Hat disappearing into the trees.

In the same pod I can listen to a sane human discussing Fassbinder and a lizard brain whining about not liking Bob Dylan. Brave stuff. The most insufferable movie podcast outside of whatever it is the Ringer is doing but not without its occasional charms. If the host took the time to listen to his own voice grate and grate and grate and then adjusted the highly obnoxious tone it would no doubt improve the show. The program on Errol Morris’ excellent “First Person” is worth a recommend but the host is comic book guy on steroids. Not as smart as it thinks it is but not as dumb as most of what’s on the net.

The brain power behind The Pink Smoke is utterly astonishing. Creators John Cribbs and Christopher Funderburg, along with a host of brilliant contributors, have created a catalogue of outstanding podcasts and articles that any lover of cinema can enjoy. There are no guilty pleasures here, nor shame in enjoying the most obscure films and literature. The Pink Smoke is a wonderful group of people who have helped me enjoy and appreciate the art I love even more.
