Bitesize Chinese 一口中文

Ep.167 🍰 Bitesize Basics 🍰 Simple Noun Clauses 簡單的名詞子句

Let’s dive into noun clauses (名詞子句) in Mandarin! In this episode, Mindy and Joeru show you how to use  to pack extra information into your nouns—just like English “the book I bought yesterday” or “the man who told me the story.” You’ll learn to say things like 那個穿紅衣服的男人打我 and 那隻在睡覺的貓是Holden with confidence.

In this episode, we cover:
– What a noun clause is and why we need it
– The …的 + noun structure for describing a subject:

  • 穿紅衣服的男人 (the man wearing red)
  • 在睡覺的貓 (the cat who’s sleeping)
  • – Using noun clauses to clarify the object in a sentence:
  • 我吃了你昨天買的蛋糕 (I ate the cake you bought yesterday)
  • 那個送你T shirt的朋友就是我 (The friend who gave you that T-shirt is me)
  • – How to place your descriptive phrase before 的 for clear, natural speech

🗣 Listener Challenge:
Pick something around you—a book, a snack, or even a pet—and describe it in Mandarin with a noun clause. For example: 這本我上個月買的書很好看。Share your sentence in the comments or tag us @bitesize.chinese on Instagram!
