Today, I wanted to talk about something frequently on my mind, that I witness in myself, loved ones, and clients: resistance to rest. In our menstrual cycle, there are times when naturally, our bodies desire to slow down, go inward & contract. These times - usually in the luteal & menstrual phases - are so important for processing emotions, trauma, limiting beliefs and highlighting where in our lives we need to take action or make adjustments. What happens when we consistently 'push through' these default times for rest and resist slowing down? What are we communicating with our bodies? Personally, and from my clinical perspective, I see this as a huge underlying factor for period pain, pre-menstrual syndrome and other symptoms of hormonal imbalance. This easily adds up to a much bigger picture of 'unwellness', when we consider that each phase of our cycle influences the next, and each cycle influences the next, and so on. It's time to break these societal patterns & make friends with slowing down, stillness and rest. Our health & hormones depend on it.
