I am a strong advocate for postpartum support, and Katya and Rob are starting and deepening a much needed conversation with this wonderful podcast.Thank you for the wonderful work that you do! The last episode (about the female pelvis and prolapse) was great! Christine's perspective is very interesting and a lot of her insights make so much sense. However, take it with a grain of salt. Her answers (albeit vague, unclear and sometimes uninformed) to Katya's very well posed questions about the merits of pelvic floor therapy may dissuade you from seeking the care that you need. I have been working with sevearl PF Therapists for over two years now after the birth of my son, I am a therapeutic yoga teacher and I am pursuing a certification in pospartum corrective excercises and I must say that not all pelvic floor therapists are created equal. I will also add that through my recovery and my work with one of them, kegels have not even entered the conversation. Her approach is very similar to plenty of the things Christine brings up such as regaining lumbar curve, not tucking tailbone, etc... Which is to say, pelvic floor therapists are not the enemy. So, if you have leakage (ANY amount) pelvic pain (anywhere from the thighs to the belly and back), pain during sex, or prolapse, definitely check out the whole woman approach, but please don't be dissuaded to find a goot pelvic floor therapist in your area. The first one may not be right for you, but the second or third may be just what you need to support you in your healing journey. And remember, pain and leakage are common, but they ARE NOT NORMAL and THEY CAN BE FIXED!
