Naming It
Naming It features Bay Area Psychologists, Dr. Bedford Palmer & Dr. LaMisha Hill, who explore the intersections of Social Justice, Psychology, & Blackness. They introduce aspects of counseling psychology that are not commonly thought of, and engage listeners in a conversation about pop-culture and current events in a way that delves deeper, and focuses on how it all impacts on our lives. The Mission of Naming It is to call out the elephant in the room, and to call in the voices of social justice that are normally muted. Bridging the Gap

Naming It has been phenomenal for me in continuing my education on how to be a better ally and accomplice for black people and other POC. I came across it shortly after AOC’s “What is black comment?” Dr. Hill & Dr. Palmer spoke on it brilliantly, and they provided so much insight. As a white woman, sometimes Doing the Work can feel confusing and overwhelming (a prime example of white privilege - this is hard, I’ll do it later, next Tuesday, in a month, etc. - while BIPOC don’t have the option to “put-off” experiencing racism). This podcast has provided me with many tools to bridge the gap between “Woe is me. I don’t know what to do or how to do it “ and actually doing it - and doing it right.

S/o Dr. Claytie Davis for putting me on the Naming It podcast at APA2018. One of many great resources that I came away from my first APA with. Since then, I have listened to every episode to get caught up, and I can honestly say that Naming It has been integral to my personal/professional development as a person and as a future psychologist. The ideas and topics that are discussed are done so masterfully, and Dr. Hill along with Dr. Palmer do a great job of communicating whats real outchea in a way that incorporates psychological terminology. Naming It is right on time considering the current climate of the U.S. Keep doing what ya’ll doing Dr. Hill and Dr. Palmer. Hopefully I can be a guest one day representing for the Black male psychologist out of Louisiana! Dr. Palmer ease up on Dr. Hill man, you be on her case HEAVY lol. Also to note, my favorite part of the podcast that never gets old is the “What’s Going On” jingle. Every time ya’ll play it, its like listening to it for the first time and I expect ya’ll to say something about it. One Love!
My new favorite podcast.

I really enjoy hearing the perspectives of black people in regards to black issues and the fact that both Dr Hill and Dr Palmer are both psychologists makes this even better. I appreciate that social justice issues are tackled from an emotionally intelligent place. I really wish Dr Hill talked more.
