Bloom Your Mind

Marie McDonald

We all think and talk about what we’ll do someday, but what if that someday could start right now? If there’s a change you want to make in yourself, in your life, or an idea that you have that you want to make real … this podcast is for you. After 20 years leading and coaching innovators, Certified Coach Marie McDonald is breaking down how great change-makers think so you can do what they do and take your ideas out of your head and into the world where they belong. We’ll teach you how to stop trying to get other people to like you and your ideas, and how to be your own biggest fan instead. You’ll learn how to ditch the drama and have fun with failure, to stop taking things personally, and to get out of anxiety and into decisive action when you don’t even know how or what you’re doing yet. Marie has used this work to go from bar tender to Vice President, to create the family of her dreams, and to start a multiple six-figure business from scratch within eight months. Whether you want to change a relationship, a habit, write a book or start a movement, it starts here on The Bloom Your Mind Podcast. Ep 143: Transitions

Seasons change, and so do we. Sometimes we’ve literally got one foot in the next season, as we change from spring to summer, summer to fall. Other times we’re transition a personal season of life, from one era of ourselves to another. This episode is guides you through a process for transitions. A way to pause, witness what’s good in your life, in your world and in yourself, and design how you want to move into what’s next with intention. You’ll learn a simple three-step practice to celebrate how far you’ve come, envision where you want to be by year’s end, and reverse-engineer the systems and anchor thoughts that will get you there. We’ll talk about: Why your brain wants to focus on your failures and how to redirect it to joy and growth. How a four foot mandalorian taught me to be in the moment before it’s passed by. A guided five sense visualization to step into your future self at the end of this year. How to reverse engineer your brain to get to the future selfHow to hack your subconscious thinking to wire your brain toward your goal, and work with your conscious mind by designing systems and action steps to get you there How to design your own anchor thoughts that keep you consistent and aligned. Why systems and habits are just as and sometimes more important than goals. Each literal and metaphorical season is a chance to recalibrate and choose our direction again and again. To make the tiny tweaks that keep us authentic and keep us on course. This episode is your invitation to use whatever transition you’re in right now, to transition intentionally instead of reactively.  Mentioned in this episode:  Atomic Habits by James Clear Nostalgia for Now How to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local Bloom Instagram: @the.bloom.coach All Things Marie on LinkTree JOIN THE BLOOM ROOM! Ep 142: Conflict Convo Cheat Sheet

Conflict isn’t a detour. It’s the road itself. And if you’re out there making ideas real, you’re going to hit it—whether you like it or not. This week on the Bloom Your Mind Podcast, we’re wrapping up our 3-part conflict resolution series with a quick-and-dirty cheat sheet. Think of this episode as your prep guide before a hard conversation: the moves that give you and the other person the best shot at resolution, connection, and growth. We’ll cover:  ✨ A lightning recap of the last two episodes (why the problem is the problem—not the person—and the five things conflict is really about).  ✨ The mirror listening tool, and how to use it so people actually feel heard.  ✨ An eight-point cheat sheet for walking into conflict as your best self.  What you’ll learn in this episode:  Grounding tips for entering a conversation with a still mind, a calm body, and lead by the outcome; you and I against the problem Using a mental talking stick to keep our inner interruption beast at bay What it means to stick to one topic at a time, even when our topics are vendiagramsHow owning our own experience, impact and subjective experience increases connectionHow ditching generalizations can bring us together, and how to recognize the sneaky ones that we use without realizing it. How to sort out when we’re coming from attachment vs. coming from love (and why boundaries matter).Manage your mind—how to watch your thinking and stay curious before during and after, so that your mind doesn’t regenerate the same conflicts again and again. By the end, you’ll have a go-to conversation checklist you can use now, or years from now, to turn conflict into a tool for building stronger ideas, deeper relationships, and a more resilient you. Your homework: Pick one current or past conflict, and run it through the cheat sheet. Where could you have shifted from “me vs. you” to “us vs. the problem”? Which step would have changed the tone? 3. Ep 141: Solving People Problems

    Ep 141: Solving People Problems

Ever notice how much easier it is to point at a person and say, “YOU are the problem”? Yeah, me too. But here’s the truth: people aren’t the problem—problems are the problem. And when we stop confusing the two, everything gets lighter, easier, and way more solvable. In this episode of the Bloom Your Mind Podcast, we’re going one layer deeper into conflict resolution and flipping the script: instead of making the person the issue, we learn how to sit shoulder-to-shoulder and face the actual issue together. We’ll cover: Why this shift matters for your relationships, your problem-solving chops, and your ability to bring ideas to life. Why it’s a huge waste of time and energy to follow our brains down the rabbit hole of making others the problem and make ourselves the problemBetty Pries’ five roots of conflict (resources, history, structures, values, and communication) and how they show up in everyday life.Four laughably real examples of moving from “You’re the worst” to “Hey, looks like we have a trash monster problem.”A step-by-step exercise to help you spot where you’re making someone the problem, reframe it, and approach them in a way that makes collaboration actually possible.Spoiler: once you stop turning people into villains and start tackling the real problem, you’ll save yourself a ton of drama, resentment, and late-night imaginary arguments in the shower. You’ll also have WAY more time to focus on making your ideas real.  ✨ Your homework: Identify one spot in your life where you’ve been making a person the problem. Reframe it into a problem problem instead, then try out the “same side of the table” approach. Bonus points if you use humor to call out the real monster. ✨ Share this episode with someone you love who might be making you the problem 😉 Mentioned on this episode:  Listen to last week’s episode on resolving conflict if you missed it (it sets the stage for today). How to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local Bloom Instagram: @the.bloom.coach All Things Marie on LinkTree JOIN THE BLOOM ROOM! 4. Ep 140: Resolving Conflict

    Ep 140: Resolving Conflict

We are all changing. Sometimes we’re doing it on purpose- setting goals that require us to think and feel and act differently, goals that require us to evolve and grow. Sometimes we’re changing in reaction to the world and the people around us. The one thing we know for sure is that change is constant… and sometimes really hard. With change often comes conflict; with ourselves and with others. Since change is guaranteed, and conflict will come with it; why not get really good at navigating our way through it? When we do, conflict becomes incredibly valuable. When we learn that we are not the hero, the good gal, the one in the right, or the virtuous one, we open a whole new capacity for calm, leadership, and love. When we realize many things are true at once, we open up rich, connecting, flourishing relationships and a world where all our ideas can become real.   That’s what today’s episode is all about.  Over the past two years I have been approached to be a conflict resolution mediator for couples, families, friends, entrepreneurs, executive teams and CEOs- each  one leading to referrals for more. It’s led me to deep dive into research, and tool finding. Today I’ll share my  favorite tools to help you step out of conflict and into flourishing.  What you’ll learn in this podcast:  Tools to resolve internal conflictTools to navigate and resolve external conflict How different ways of change create conflict and why it can be valuableHow to make the problem the problem, instead of making the person the problemThe five things that all conflicts are ACTUALLY about, instead of being about the personA three part process to preparing for conflict resolutionA five part framework for approaching someone in your life to resolve a conflictFive other quick tips to adopt a mindset that will lead to connection and resolutionReferenced in this podcast: The space between us by Betty PriesBecky KennedyCarmen LandsdowneBrene Brown BYM Podcast Episodes: Listening is sexy Listen to this Feelings are a superpower When It’s happening for you The Practice The tool that changed everything Thought trades How to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local Bloom Instagram: @the.bloom.coach All Things Marie on LinkTree JOIN THE BLOOM ROOM! Ep 139: Finding your Moxie

With a cup of melted ice cream in my hand, I waited for a group of kids to explore a book store, staring in the window at the best sellers. That was the day I found an author whose prose gave me a week of  both mind-swooning entertainment and a jolting moment of reflection.  She wrote about giving our time and energy to things that fill us with passion and motivation. That fill our minds the moment we open our eyes in the morning, and fill our souls with purpose and life. Everything I’ve created in the last five years of thought leadership is about this idea. I’ve created podcasts and books, programs and coaching groups to helping people find where and how their passion can take form. We all want to find it.  So why do we so often find ourselves pulled off track by the passion and motivation of others? If you’ve ever found yourself working too hard at a job or in a volunteer position, giving too much to the family or relationships that you serve, this episode is for you.  Things you’ll learn in this episode:  The one most common thing that makes people spin their wheels instead of getting into actionThe difference between working toward your passion, and giving time and energy too someone else’s passionWhy it feels so good to support people when their idea is inspired and their vision is full of intent and energyHow to intentionally choose to support someone else’s idea, and find your own vision inside of itHow to know when the time you’ve spent working toward someone else’s idea has come to a closeWhy the world needs feminine ideas and feminine leadership more than ever beforeTwo questions to ask yourself to help uncover the whispers of your own ideas, and how to know when you’re giving too much time and energy too something outside of yourselfMentioned in this podcast: Taylor Jenkins Reid: Daisy Jones and the SixTaylor Jenkins Reid: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn HugoHow to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local Bloom Instagram: @the.bloom.coach All Things Marie on LinkTree JOIN THE BLOOM ROOM! Ep 138: Ditch the Shell

Have you ever outgrown a version of yourself— and gotten stuck in that awkward liminal space between one identity and another?  In this episode of the Bloom Your Mind Podcast, I’m taking you on a wild ride that starts with a free-range hermit crab named Hermie (yes, really) and ends with a three step reflection to help you identify where you are in your identity shift. We’ll explore what it feels like to be in the awkward, raw, beautiful space between who you were and who you’re becoming—and how to navigate it with more self-compassion and clarity. What you’ll learn in this episode:  How we’re always making ideas real, but articulating them puts us in the driver’s seat of how we’re growing How self concept is the container for our current ways of thinking, feeling, acting and beingThe three awkward (and magical) stages of leveling up your self conceptHow a 90’s housepet trend can give us answers from the natural worldWhy the strategies that got you here won’t get you thereHow to work with old versions of yourself instead of pushing them awayA guided reflection to help you identify your next self concept leapWhether you're launching a business, changing relationship dynamics, healing old patterns, or just leveling up, this episode normalizes the discomfort of growth—and will help you move forward as the change maker that you are.  Resources and episodes mentioned: The Land InsideBrain Buckets Look How Far You’ve ComeHow to connect with Marie: On the Web | The Local Bloom Instagram: @the.bloom.coach All Things Marie on LinkTree JOIN THE BLOOM ROOM!
