Ep. 86: lisa wise, Founder & Chief Strategist, Flock DC Co-Founder & CSO, BirdWatch Be The Good with Kate

    • Society & Culture

A landlord who cares? Value-focused housing? This week’s episode of Be The Good with Kate dives into the incredible work on housing lisa wise is doing in DC and Philly.

How does one secure housing, how landlords could or should be, trusting your instincts, residents not tenants, housing justice, homes not buildings, people not bottom lines. People live here, not bottom lines.

“lisa wise has been tending to residential real estate for more than 30 years.  She is the founder, owner of Flock DC, a family of residential management companies that oversees $2.5 billion in Washington, DC property.

Together with her co-founders, she launched Birdwatch, PBC in 2022, a high touch, technology powered maintenance service for homeowners and real estate investors.  Birdwatch is a seed stage enterprise, serving members in Washington, DC and Philadelphia.

All of her work has been purpose-driven and anchored in justice. In 2020, lisa founded and launched birdSEED, a housing justice foundation granting no-strings down payment grants to first-time BIPOC home buyers. In 2022, birdSEED was named a world-changing idea by Fast Company. She is the author of Self-Elected: How to Put People Over Profit and Soar in Business.

lisa grew up in small western mountain towns, calling 23 spaces home before she found her way to the University of Arizona where she earned three degrees and a deep love of the Southwest. She is the immediate past chair of Whitman-Walker Health, and serves on the Board of Directors for the DC Affordable Law Firm.  She and her wife Cameron live with their 10 year old Beckett in the heart of DC.”
