In this episode, author and historian Judy Wu, tells us about Patsy Mink.
Patsy Mink was an attorney and politician from the state of Hawaii. She was the first Asian-American woman and the first woman of color elected to Congress.
Patsy’s story is great because she didn’t give up when things were tough. She was a woman who really fought for change and worked on the both the federal and local levels. She also knew that even when you have legislation passed, you still need to make sure the laws are enforced, especially when it comes to equality.
Judy Wu is currently working on a book about Patsy Mink and has an essay about her in the recent book, Suffrage at 100.
