EPISODE SUMMARY:
This is the second of a two-part episode on the subject of “Who controls your mind”,
One thing to remember when you listen is: no story or headline has ever only one perspective, one angle, one side. There are ALWAYS more sides to any story or headline – the one you get presented with is usually the only one you are meant to know.
The episode starts by linking up to the previous one by looking at peer pressure and influences from social media to participate in viral challenges or activities they would normally not do.
But the main part focuses on how “outside forces” influence your mind, often with tools and techniques recommended by scientists to influence buying behaviours, to achieve behaviour changes and to induce guilt in people who are not complying with instructions.
This happens in the world of news and media, in sales and advertising and, as we have seen since March 2020, in the world of government and authorities.
You will also be offered some tips of how you can guard yourself from “outside forces”, like social media, advertising, media and news, etc., taking over your mind by influencing your buying behaviours, by instilling beliefs or behaviours that do not align with your values or by influencing your opinions about other people.
Essential to remember is always: YOU have the CHOICE who you believe, what you believe and how you react or respond – this applies to both this episode as well as the next one.
KEY TAKEAWAYS:
· Social influence and Peer Pressure
· Social media – Bandwagon effect
· Marketing and advertising – Neuromarketing, scarcity, etc.
· Government and authorities – Division, virtue signalling and inducing guilt
· Questioning “facts” and practical tips to reclaim control
