Hi, my name is Rick. I have been a teacher for 17 years. I have always felt that one element in education that was missing was taking the time to talk to students, parents, and other school community members to learn more about them. This podcast is comprised of raw unfiltered discussions with people in the greater Kansas City area that play an impact on youth. Through these powerful conversations I not only learn more about the people in my community, but rather, ways that I can better support the community youth to thrive and flourish.     I sit down with Jayden in my class, who is a great athlete. He lives his life with such a joy and always has a smile on his face. What an honor to have him in class. Also, he is not shy to let me know that my style of teaching wasn't necessarily his style or worked well for him.  Nonetheless, he is for sure someone I will always remember.

    Episode 10: In the raw with L & D

    In this episode, I sit down and talk with Lauren and Delaney, who in less than 25 days will have completed their journey through Trailridge Elementary School. These girls have graced the halls since kindergarten and have fantastic futures ahead. I was so lucky to be their teacher during this pandemic filled year.

    Episode 9: In the raw with T_2021_N

    An emergency release that was pushed to the forefront ahead of some other unreleased conversations I have had throughout this year. It is an ever constant battle to edit these and push them out. Intro and outro music was changed to some of my original tracks that fit the mood of these conversations better. This is a raw exit conversation with one of my students who is leaving us before the year ends. It is one of the better conversations I have had with a student. Enjoy, and go be awesome people.

    Episode 8: Raw Conversation with Mrs. Kevern

    This episode is a conversation with Mrs. Jennifer Kevern who is currently the principal at Trailridge. She is also my current supervisor and acting principal. Jennifer has a calm demeanor and really supports her staff. I was able to get a little time with her before she had to attend a meeting. I really hope you enjoy listening to her story and can take away something from our conversation.

    Episode 7: A conversation with Dr. Ryan Rostine

    Episode 7 is the final episode for season one of the podcast. I highly recommend listening to it as Dr. Ryan Rostine is one of the most prolific educators I have been blessed to work with. He was an inspiring leader, a colleague, and is a friend. Listen to his journey and story in education and while we reflect on what made his tenure at Longview Farm Elementary School so remarkable.  Season two of the pod will run from September to July as I prepare to line up this coming seasons guests. I hope you find this final episode uplifting and exciting as educators return to their respective roles under the covid19 pandemic and spring shutdown. I hope you find peace as you return to being a pivotal force in the life of children!

When faced with the impossible, Kristin always comes through for our school. We talk about the reality of trying to parent kids with the help of schools and much, much more.     I again sit down with one of my former sixth grade students to discuss the year and some highs and lows throughout the elementary years. I am encouraged with the way in which this student was vulnerable and shared thoughts openly. I think our school served this student extremely well and we should feel great as a staff as this child moves to middle school.
