This breakout session will explore the art of narration and will include practical tips for implementing this practice at home. Ideally suited for parents with children in K-5th grades (or for anyone else curious about this age-old tradition of knowing and telling).

    CT 2024: Pat Semanie – “The Other 90%: Helping Kids Think About Their Resources”

    "Nature abhors a vacuum, and when the available 'spiritual space' is not filled by some higher motivation, then it will necessarily be filled by something lower--by the small, mean, calculating attitude to life which is rationalized in the economic calculus." E.F. Schumacher wrote that out of a deep concern for our telos toward our resources, that we would just treat growth and efficiency as the end goal. But how do we cultivate a healthier telos that considers our community, our church, and the kingdom? How do we cultivate that in our students? We'll discuss that in this breakout with the help of Schumacher, Wendell Berry, and God's Word.

    CT 2024: Kristy Clifford – “🎶 Happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time 🎶 - A conversation about adolescent identity, relationships, and formation”

    Link to slide deck I recently read an instagram post where the parent of a 17 year old ventured to say that "no one, when they embark on parenthood, thinks about having teenagers." And yet, everything we know about parents is that one of their top concerns for their children is their spiritual development, particularly during adolescence. In fact, according to the Barna Group, "Seven in 10 U.S. parents (70%) say they are at least somewhat concerned about their children staying true to their spiritual faith." And how could they not be, in a world where Gen Z is known as the lonely and anxious generation and faith declining into early adulthood has become the norm? This session is an invitation into the messy and intimidating conversation about who our students are, who they are becoming, the influences that will continue to shape them, and what our roles are as parents and community members in their lives.
