episode 10 - Loss of a Child - Beth Krom
Beth Krom was a two-time mayor, running for congress when her son tragically died. It was a week before his college graduation, so her family’s graduation plans became funeral plans. On this episode her kindness and wit come out as shares the surreal moments after losing her son, how she resisted therapy, the inappropriate things people said to her, and having to deal with the narrative that was being written about his death. This is a longer episode, so if you or someone you know is going through loss, please be sure to get 40 minutes in, because she shares some excellent insights and advice towards the end. Beth says “we as a society, are very uncomfortable with other people’s pain" and also shares – “One thing I learned right away - Even death has a community – You are not alone on this journey”
