Mark Payton, a native of Chicago, Illinois, was often referred to as an Augie Garrido type of player. He began his career at Texas in 2011 and played all four years. Payton was selected 3 times in baseball's June Amateur Draft.

He finished his Texas career with the following stats:

.425 on base %

.318 career batting average

7 homers

122 RBI

36 stolen bases

He also played on a pair of College World Series teams.

Since his days at Texas, Payton has worked his way through the minor league system with the Yankees, Athletics, Reds, and Mets.

He made his 1st MLB appearance in August of 2020 and smacked a double in his first at-bat.

Fast forward two years, Payton is currently waiting out baseball's lockout while MLB negotiates a new collective bargaining agreement.

Mark told some stories about the late, great Augie Garrido. Delivered some valuable info to youth baseball players and parents.

His Man Cave Story involved a teammate's split pair of starched jeans.
