Welcome back to Bringing Reading Back’s second season, “Sh!t You’d Read in Lit!” This is the full length episode for our fourth book, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. This book is a 1969 autobiography of the childhood and young adult years of American writer and poet Maya Angelou. Angelou details her years in depression era Arkansas as well as St. Louis and California. She deals with hardships and joys along the way. Her powerful story  highlights tough subjects such as black identity in America, racism, education, social status and so much more. Angelou has been an influence for many in our society and we truly enjoyed diving into her life.
