Episode 14 - The Orange Years are Full of Good Burgers

The AndyPlex

Part 1: (0:00- 1:17) Texas filmmaker Scott Barber joins Andy to talk about the journey of his freshly released documentary, "The Orange Years: The Nickelodeon story." Scott co-wrote and co-directed this movie, which chronicles the rise of the fledgling cable network, Nickelodeon, in its' formative years. The piece focuses mostly on the network's rise under the visionary leadership of president Geraldine Laybourne, who imprinted her powerful stamp. Geraldine got kids; got how to reach them, bond with them, and speak to them. Nickelodeon became a place for kids to grow and learn in a safe environment that was real, and just that right amount of naughty. Part 2: (1:17-2:05) Andy and Scott Barber take a deep fried, well done dive into the formative Nickelodeon feature from 1997, "Good Burger." This film explores powerful motifs that are ringing loudly in 2020 such as corporate takeover, the struggle of the middle class, and the raging battle for small business and the American dream.
