From 1993 to 2003, he oversaw the Human Genome Project, an international research effort to map and understand all the genes of the human species, collectively known as the genome. Completed in 2003, this project provided a blueprint for human biology, helping scientists understand how genes influence health and disease. Many view it one of the most important scientific achievements in all of history. But Francis is not just a decorated scientist, he is also famously known for his journey from atheism to becoming a believer in God. In 2006, he released the international New York Times bestseller, The Language of God, in which he put forth all the different lines of evidence for God's existence.
