The mission of the All Creatures Podcast is to educate listeners on the diverse animals that share our planet. We are in the midst of the Earth’s Six Mass Extinction and many animals need our help if they are to survive.Each week we will discuss a new species, conduct interviews with conservation experts from around the globe, and discuss recent conservation news.

Pygmy Hippo: Moo Deng's Origins

Moo Deng, the baby Pygmy Hippopotamus was born in 2024 and became a world-wide sensation. This birth is critical to their species!! With so few numbers, each Pygmy Hippo born under human care is a lifeline to their wild counterparts. This is because sadly, with as few as 2000 Pygmy Hippos left in the world, we are losing one of natures often forgotten large herbivores. Though one tenth the size of their larger cousins the Common Hippopotamus, the Pygmy Hippo is no small runt. Weighing in as much as 600 lbs. (275 kg), they are still a force to be reckoned with. Yet, this shy and elusive herbivore is suffering and slipping towards extinction. Thankfully, these West African natives are a focus for many conservation efforts and their story is one to be told. By telling their story, all of us can bring awareness to these special animals and do all we can to help save them. Save a Tiger, Save the World w/Dr Sunarto

Back in 2018 we were privileged to speak with World Wildlife Fund Scientist Dr. Sunarto. He is on the front line of helping to save Sumatran Tigers, among many other species on the brink. We are bringing this interview back to you for a listen about how these conservationist work tirelessly to preserve endangered species. Sunarto has gained field experiences studying and conserving wildlife, including Sumatran tigers, Sumatran elephants, rhinos, orangutans, bears and birds, in various places in Indonesia and abroad. This podcast is filled with many unique and interesting facts about lots of different animals. Chris and Angie have great synergy. They are so genuine and passionate about animals and it’s easy to see as you listen to them dork out on some awesome species. I’m a herper so I really enjoy the reptile episodes but all them are really interesting. I’m also a caver and would love if you could do an episode on the blind cave fish. I’m sure the evolution will be fascinating! Thank you Chris and Angie for the knowledge and passion you share with your listeners!

It has taken me too long to find this amazing podcast and how I have SO many to catch up on! Brian and Angie (congratulations on the PhD (that’s how far behind I am!) deliver every single episode with facts, conservation status, person anecdotes, maternal RNA (you haven’t lost me yet Brian!), evolution, enthusiasm and information about what organizations are doing good work that are worth of attention. When I was a kid, we had a plastic box in our living room which was filled with square cards each one focused on photographs, maps, and facts about a creature. I would spend hours just pouring over these cards and dreaming of what it would be like to meet them. And now we have Wikipedia and this podcast! If you are an animal lover and lifetime learner, you will love this show. Brian and Angie, thank you for making time in your lives to share your knowledge with your listeners - you are inspiring me to find more ways to make a difference through conservation! ~Beth

Growing up I was always obsessed with animals, I wanted to be a marine biologist or paleontologist.. as I got older, living in New York and being driven toward a field with a, “stable income,” I shifted gears and was drawn away from my childhood dreams. After seeing sperm whales on vacation in the Azores, I searched and came across all creatures podcast with an episode specifically on sperm whales! I really enjoy the presentation, discussions, and information provided about the animals and quickly realized there are many more unique episodes available! My childhood passion was lit aflame again and I get to share my passion with my wife, during our car rides, particularly now as we are in Madeira and I play this podcast every car ride. This podcast inspires me and makes me want to go to Africa or Australia as my next big trip. The hosts are great and the premise is awesome. Will definitely become a Patreon supporter when I get home from vacation! Keep doing what you do!
