Episode 8: First Interview with South Dakota Medical Marijuana Card Holder and Home Cultivator

Episode 8: First Interview with South Dakota Medical Marijuana Card Holder and Home Cultivator Home May 19, 2023 6:10 pm One Comment In episode 8, we have our first Medical Marijuana patient and home cultivator on the podcast. Huge thank you to Hunter for being our first South Dakota Medical Marijuana Cardholder to be on the show!Hunter takes us through his journey to get certified, the requirements he had to meet in order to home cultivate, and offers some tips that could improve the home cultivation program.Getting CertifiedA mix of both physical clinic locations and Outreach Clinics is necessary for patients with chronic conditions to get certified. If the state wants to eliminate Outreach Clinics, they need to replace them with a telehealth option. Asking people with chronic conditions to drive several hours to get certified for their medical card is unconscionable. Especially when you take into account that the average age of cardholders is about 50 – 52 years old.Not offering telehealth also creates a significant amount of confusion for anyone trying to find out how or where to get certified. Why? Because the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe’s (FSST) Medical Marijuana Program DOES offer telehealth. The majority of South Dakotans still do not understand that the South Dakota Medical Marijuana Program and the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe’s (FSST) Medical Marijuana Programs are completely separate. You can use telehealth to get your FSST Card, you can NOT use telehealth to get your South Dakota Card.Advice to anyone wanting a South Dakota State Card and an FSST Card – Get your South Dakota Card first then get your FSST Card. FSST allows you to use your South Dakota State Card in lieu of an additional telehealth visit with a physician to get your FSST Card.South Dakota Medical Marijuana ProgramFSST Medical Marijuana ProgramSouth Dakota Medical Marijuana Program – Find a Clinic or Certiying Practitioner Near YouSouth Dakota Medical Marijuana Program – Find an Outreach Near YouSouth Dakota Medical Marijuana Program – How to Get Certified for Your Medical Card Watch Listen The Coughy House Podcast Episode 8: First Interview with South Dakota Medical Marijuana Card Holder and Home Cultivator Play Episode Pause Episode Mute/Unmute Episode Rewind 10 Seconds 1x Fast Forward 30 seconds 00:00 / 00:32:36 Subscribe Share Amazon Apple Podcasts Google Play Google Podcasts Spotify YouTube RSS Feed

Episode: 7 Botanicals Indoor Gardening Center – Who are Sam and Ruben | How Did They End Up In South Dakota

Episode: 7 Botanicals Indoor Gardening Center – Who are Sam and Ruben | How Did They End Up In South Dakota Home April 28, 2023 2:31 pm No Comments Show Description In Episode 7 of The Coughy House Podcast, we sit back down with Sam and Ruben at Botanicals Indoor Gardening Center to ask who they are and how they ended up in South Dakota.Sam and Ruben, are truly a match made in South Dakota. Their chemistry and friendly demeanors give you the impression that they’ve known each other and been friends for years. But, in fact, they are from opposite sides of the country, come from totally different backgrounds, and had never met prior to moving to South Dakota. Luckily for us, both Sam and Ruben were handpicked by the ownership of Botanicals to fill the positions that they hold.Whether through self-education or learning from mentors, both Sam and Ruben have put in years and years of hard work to acquire the growing expertise that they have. As individuals both Sam and Ruben are expert growers but together, they bring a wealth of much-needed knowledge and expertise to the industry. Their combined expertise is crucial in ensuring that the state’s cannabis industry continues to thrive and evolve. The good news is that they both love it in South Dakota and don’t plan on leaving us anytime soon.Visit Botanicals Indoor Gardening Center Online at botanicalsigc.com THC:CBD Ratios 1:1 (THC:CBD) 1:0 (THC Only) 0:1 (CBD Only) 10:1 (CBD:THC) 1:2 or 1:3 CBD:THC The 1:1 THC: CBD ratio means that your cannabis product contains (ideally) an equal amount of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These are the two main chemical compounds or cannabinoids in the cannabis plant.Anecdotal evidence indicates that this equally distributed ratio is optimal for experiencing the benefits of cannabis. This combination of cannabinoids is often called the “Golden Ratio.” Together, these two cannabinoids are considered by some to be more powerful anti-inflammatories than alone, in what is called the entourage effect. Source Cannabis products containing only THC could be helpful for people experiencing nausea and vomiting. The anti-nausea drug dronabinol (brand name Marinol) is a synthetic form of THC and is prescribed to treat chemotherapy-induced nausea. THC-only products have also been reported to relieve pain and reduce muscle spasms. A THC-only product can be quite psychoactive.Source The benefits of using a CBD-only product include a potential reduction in anxiety and improved sleep patterns. Some people prefer CBD-exclusive products simply because they don’t want THC’s intoxicating effects. (It should be remembered that CBD is technically psychoactive.) Source The ratio of 10:1 tips the see-saw towards CBD, which some may find dampens THC’s psychoactivity. However, sedation is still possible in higher doses. The ratio of 20:1 CBD:THC may produce similar sedative effects.Other CBD-rich ratios like 3:1 or 6:1 may tip the scale in favor of CBD’s effects.Source These products contain both THC and CBD, but this time with more THC. The CBD can buffer some of THC’s psychoactivity in such products but may also lengthen the experience. High-CBD-low-THC ratios are recommended for canna

Episode 4 Part 2 – Emmett Reistroffer from Genesis Farms – Law Enforcement, Adult Use, Manufacturing

Episode 4 Part 2 – Emmett Reistroffer from Genesis Farms – Law Enforcement, Adult Use, Manufacturing March 24, 2023 1:28 am One Comment Watch Listen Spotify Podcast Amazon Google-play Youtube Show Description In episode 4 part 2, we dive into the criminal justice system, getting adult use back on the ballot, and what the future holds for Genesis’s manufactured products.Criminal Justice SystemDrug Court South Dakota’s criminal justice system is still very much geared towards punishment over rehabilitation. Nowhere is this more apparent than in our Drug Courts. If you are charged with a drug offense in South Dakota, you will have to serve out your sentence whether you complete treatment or not. In most other states, after completing treatment, your charges are dropped and your sentence is vacated.Law EnforcementThe way law enforcement approaches drug-related matters is incredibly inconsistent across the state. The difference between being arrested for possession and just having your Marijuana confiscated generally depends on the arresting officer and their mood that day. For obvious reasons, that doesn’t sound like the best way to be handling those situations. Especially when those law enforcement resources could be allocated toward violent crime prevention.Adult UseUnfortunately, adult use did not pass last November. Moving forward, the industry needs to come together and become advocates for the legalization of adult use. Money Legalizing adult use and adding a MET (Marijuana Excise Tax) could generate $100M/year in tax revenue for the state of South Dakota. We could use that money to do a number of things including replacing the grocery tax dollar for dollar, eliminating the school lunch debt, making school lunch free, increasing teacher pay, and so much more.Genesis Manufactured ProductsEmmett has an extensive background in Manufactured Cannabis Products which is why we are dubbing him the Cannabis Product Guru of the Midwest. Genesis Farms’ state-of-the-art lab will be producing a large variety of products that will be available mid-May at Genesis and Non-Genesis dispensaries. Genesis Farms – https://genesisfarmscannabis.com/ Subscribe on Amazon Apple Podcasts Google Play Google Podcasts Spotify YouTube

Their slogan is: “South Dakota’s Homegrown Cannabis Company” LegislationWe discuss the Spring 2023 legislative session, each of the bills introduced, and how they could impact the program. Unfortunately, the industry has had to spend most of this session on defense as the legislature has introduced several bills to restrict the industry, rather than introduce anything that could be positive for the industry.Bill Lookup – https://sdlegislature.gov/Session/Bil… Oversight CommitteeWe talk about some of the areas where The Oversight Committee has fallen short, as well as, the legislative changes that could impact the committee.SB 134, will expand the law enforcement presence by adding “one representative of local law enforcement, one member with drug investigation experience, and one school resource officer” to the committee.HB1132 would require the committee to evaluate and make recommendations to the Legislature and the department regarding “research studies regarding health effects of medical cannabis for patients; and any medical and clinical aspects of the medical cannabis program.” to their duties.Emmett explains HB134 will ultimately end up just adding more people to the committee who do not want to be on the committee.Genesis Farms – https://genesisfarmscannabis.com/ Bill Lookup HB 1053 HB1053 – prohibit the issuance of a written certification to a pregnant woman or breastfeeding mother for purposes of medical cannabis use.
