Episode 429: Conservative as "Defender of Liberty" The Brion McClanahan Show
-
- History
Richard Weaver is one of the great political thinkers of the 20th century, and his 1960 essay "Conservatism and Libertarianism: The Common Ground" should be required reading for anyone interested in the modern political right. Weaver was called a conservative but in this essay he identified as a libertarian. He also had no problem being called a conservative. The glue? John C. Calhoun and the idea that both conservatives and libertarians defended "liberty." I discuss this essay in this episode of The Brion McClanahan Show.
