Episode 64: Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Relief with Elizabeth Angeles

Daily Dose of Slay

In this episode I chat with Elizabeth Angeles about how to prepare for hurricane Florence and how to help those that have been impacted. We also talk about her work in Puerto Rico and learn what we can do to make a difference. Elizabeth Angeles is a lifelong New Yorker with Puerto Rican and Dominican roots, committed to creating opportunities for social impact. For the past three years she has worked for NYC Emergency Management, the city agency that is responsible for helping New Yorkers before, during and after emergencies through preparedness, education and response. During her time with the agency, she has focused on community engagement and strategic planning and has also been part of the city's response to various emergencies, including the Chelsea bombings in 2016 and the Flatiron District steam explosion in 2018. One of her most memorable experiences was as part of the team sent to support Puerto Rico one week after Hurricane Maria made landfall on the island in September 2017. After returning from Puerto Rico, she began writing about her experience and discussing other ways to make an impact on elizabethangeles.com. Elizabeth holds a MPA from New York University and a BA from Columbia University.
