Episode 7: Fred Guttenberg

The Dispatches with Paul Rieckhoff

Just when you think things can't shock you anymore, politics in America finds a way.

We now all know about Q Anon. And we’re learning more and more about the role it/they played in the January 6 terrorist attack on our Capitol. And over the next few weeks, as the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump unfolds, we’ll all learn more about the conspirators, ringleaders, supporters — traitors — who made it all possible. And who are still conspiring right now. Many in the shadows of the internet and our society. But some are doing it right out in the open.

Marjorie Taylor Greene is U.S. Representative for Georgia's 14th congressional district. She was elected this fall and sworn in last month. Video emerged this week showing her harassing and stalking a Parkland survivor, 17-year-old David Hogg. After claiming Parkland didn’t happen, a plane didn’t hit the Pentagon on 9/11 and Trump didn’t lose the election.

A new American insurgency is now out in the open — and likely, growing. And growing thanks to the calls for attack by Donald Trump, fueled by calls from enablers like Rudy Giuliani, and propelled thanks to rising stars of the insurgency like Majorie Taylor Greene. She’s not last, crazy, dying gasp of a desperate group of people. She is leading the next wave.

And a brave father is leading the charge to fight back. This special dispatch features an urgent conversation with a leader who is fighting a fight that shouldn't have to be fought. Fred Gutenberg is a hero. And a helper. Fred wrote a book called Find The Helpers. He suffered an unimaginable loss when his 14-year-old daughter Jamie was murdered at Parkland, Florida’s Stoneman Douglas High School. Despite his pain, he emerged the very next day. He spoke at a vigil addressing his community. It was carried nationally and the entire country was riveted by what he said. And he has not stopped ever since then. And today, he introduced legislation to fight lies and stop Congresswoman Majorie Taylor Greene. Fred joined us back in Episode 74 of Angry Americans in August of last year and he’s here again. It’s an urgent and timely conversation you need to hear.

The war is on. This is your update. This is The Dispatches.

Our host, Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) is an Army infantry and Military Police (MP) veteran, he’s fought an insurgency in Iraq, he’s guarded against violent mobs and terror attacks, and he’s set up check-points in New York City after 9/11.
