Eastern Standard Tribe
In this podiobook: Art is an up-and-coming interface designer, working on the management of data flow along the Massachusetts Turnpike. He's doing the best work of his career and can guarantee that the system will be, without question, the most counterintuitive, user-hostile piece of software ever pushed forth into the world. Why? Because Art is an industrial saboteur. He may live in London and work for an EU telecommunications megacorp, but Art's real home is the Eastern Standard Tribe. The comm -- instant wireless communication -- puts everyone in touch with everyone else, twenty-four hours a day. But one thing hasn't changed: the need for sleep. The world is slowly splintering into Tribes held together by common time zones, less than families and more than nations. And Art is working to humiliate the Greenwich Mean Tribe to the benefit of his own people. The world of next week is overflowing with ubiquitous computing, where an idea scribbled onto one's comm can revolutionize an industry. But in a world without boundaries, nothing can be taken for granted -- not happiness, not money, and, most certainly, not love.Which might explain why Art finds himself stranded on the roof of an insane asylum outside Boston, debating whether to push a pencil into his brain. Happiness or smarts? What's it going to be, Art?

Slow down
2013. 12. 17.
Story was excellent as befitting any Doctrow piece, but I have to say the reading left something to be desired. Cory, it's not a race. Let the sentences stand a moment and sink in. Often found myself going back a few seconds to pay better attention to scene or character transitions. Granted, I usually listen while doing other things and my mind is only half on the story, so maybe I'm not the best critic, but I think it's fair to say I'm in the majority of people listening to rather than reading books. Those punctuation marks are there for a reason, use them.
Great Tale of the Near Future

This is a better story than the author's description makes it sound. Some whacked out dude is stuck on a roof of an insane asylum telling you all about how he got there. It's funny, interesting, near-futuristic and suspensful. Well worth a listen. One of the better audiobooks here on itunes. It's proof that the future will be a little bit more difficult and a little bit more amazing than the present.
Well worth a listen!

Hooked from the first chapter. Very Hitchhikeresque. Well written, clever and all around a solid, but sardonic, book.
