The Thing About Austen
The Thing About Austen is a podcast about Jane Austen's world — the people, objects, and culture that shape Austen's fiction. Come for the historical context and stay for the literary shenanigans. Think of us as your somewhat cheeky tour guides to the life and times of Jane Austen.

Fans of Austen live for her clever, cheeky ways. This podcast emboldens us with a vast amount of research to paint the picture of what an every day person in Austen Land really cares about: finding true love, securing a fortune, and finding laughter through it all. I’m hooked.

I absolutely love this podcast. I can’t believe I only just found it because I have a lifelong obsession with Austen. It’s so nice to hear from experts and know you’re getting an accurate glimpse into the lives of Austen’s characters. I also love how much the hosts love the books as readers, not just as scholars.
One of my favorite feel-good podcasts

I love this podcast and have been happily making my way through the episodes since discovering it recently. With their friendly, light-hearted tone, yet incredibly vast and deep fund of interesting information, Zan and Diane must be considered - even by the fastidious Mr. Elliot - the BEST company.

I can't get enough of this material culture context on Austen's novels. Every episode gives great historical detail, literary context, and niche nerdy. I demand more!! *please*
