"Jesus is Lord" by Dan Winkler

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 6:00PM Auditorium Speaker   Speaker: Dan Winkler     John 20 - The Resurrection 20 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. 2 So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” 3 So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. 4 Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. 8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; 9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples went back to their homes. Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene 11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. 12 And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her. Jesus Appears to the Disciples 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.” 22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” Jesus and Thomas 24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” 26 Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” The Purpose of This Book 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that

"Behold the Man" by Scott Cain

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 10:30AM Auditorium Speaker   Speaker: Scott Cain   John 18-19 - Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus 18 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered. 2 Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples. 3 So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons. 4 Then Jesus, knowing all that would happen to him, came forward and said to them, “Whom do you seek?” 5 They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them. 6 When Jesus said to them, “I am he,” they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 So he asked them again, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus of Nazareth.” 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. So, if you seek me, let these men go.” 9 This was to fulfill the word that he had spoken: “Of those whom you gave me I have lost not one.” 10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant's name was Malchus.) 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?” Jesus Faces Annas and Caiaphas 12 So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound him. 13 First they led him to Annas, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. 14 It was Caiaphas who had advised the Jews that it would be expedient that one man should die for the people. Peter Denies Jesus 15 Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he entered with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest, 16 but Peter stood outside at the door. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the servant girl who kept watch at the door, and brought Peter in. 17 The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man's disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.” 18 Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself. The High Priest Questions Jesus 19 The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. 20 Jesus answered him, “I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where all Jews come together. I have said nothing in secret. 21 Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them; they know what I said.” 22 When he had said these things, one of the officers standing by struck Jesus with his hand, saying, “Is that how you answer the high priest?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If what I said is wrong, bear witness about the wrong; but if what I said is right, why do you strike me?” 24 Annas then sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest. Peter Denies Jesus Again 25 Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “You also are not one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, asked, “Did I not see you in the garden with him?” 27 Peter again denied it, and at once a rooster crowed. Jesus Before Pilate 28 Then they led Jesus from the house of Caiaphas to the governor's headquarters. It was early morning. They themselves did not enter the governor's headquarters, so that they would not be defiled, but could eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate went outside to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?” 30 They answered him, “If this man were not doing evil, we would not have delivered him over to you.” 31 Pilate said to them, “Take him yourselves and judge him

"The Jesus Who Welcomes You Home" by Glen Hitchcock

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 9:30AM MPR 1 Speaker   Speaker: Glen Hitchcock   The Jesus Who Welcomes You Home - John 21:9-19 Unique Insights There are unique insights into the thinking of the disciples in that unusual period between the resurrection and establishment of the church in Acts. No one, not even the disciples of Jesus, understood what God had accomplished in Jesus’ death and resurrection. There was a period of 50 days when God’s greatest success seemed a failure from the human viewpoint. Passover and the days of unleavened bread being completed, the disciples had no need to stay in Jerusalem – they went home. GOOD NEWS, JESUS WELCOMES YOU HOME! JESUS WELCOMES US WHEN Overtaken By Separation & Loneliness, 1-2. Our Best Efforts Result In Emptiness, 3-5. Our Vision Is Not Always Clear, 5-14. Our Failure Is Undeniable, 15-19. When Overtaken by Separation & Loneliness, 1-2. The disciples were greatly discouraged after the crucifixion, and despite several post-resurrection appearances there seemed to be lingering doubts among some. The anxiety of separation & loneliness did not force them to quit. They came in Galilee in obedience to Jesus’s command (Matt. 28:10)… “to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.” Question? Do You Think the Disciples Were Being Tested? When Our Best Efforts Result In Emptiness, 3-4 These men were fishermen, and perhaps they needed food and money to provide for their living expenses. Their night labors apart from Jesus proved to be unproductive. Truth: “Until one can clearly see Jesus, our labors are in vain” (John 15:4-5). Jesus Welcomes The Weary and Heavy Laden, (Matt. 11:28-30) in contrast to the Wicked and Lazy (Prov. 13:4; Matt. 25:26). When Our Vision is Unclear, 5-13 The disciples come in before dawn with no fish, Jesus--whom they do not recognize--directs them to cast on the right side - they catch 153 large fish. The catch is large enough to make John identify the Man on the shore, and he tells Peter, v-7. Peter, dressed in his undergarments alone, jumps in and immediately heads to shore, v-7. There, Jesus has cooked a meal for them and welcomes them to break their fast and eat, v-12. These 7 disciples know who Jesus is; the dawn breaks, and they eat breakfast with Jesus, vs. 12-13. When Failure is Undeniable, 15-19 “Character is built on the debris of our despair.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson Painful Conversation, 15-19 Perfecting Of Character Present Concern Plan Of Christ   Four Basic Realities Concerning Failure Decisive. There are a hundred ways in which one can be declared a failure, but few in which one can be called a success. Distortive. A feeling of failure in one area of endeavor often distorts meaning in all other areas. Depressive. Societal stress on the significance of failure is so powerful that any failure produces a sense of defeatism which can lead one to unquestionably define one’s whole life as a failure. Diminishing. The common result of failure in any endeavor is the disconnect of personal initiative, drive, self-confidence, and determination. PAINFUL CONVERSATION, 15-19 To appreciate the awkwardness and painfulness of the moment for Peter, remember a few facts: The night of the betrayal Peter had emphatically declared that even if everyone else deserted Jesus, he would not desert Jesus. He then did desert Jesus at the arrest. Later, as he returned to the Jewish proceedings, 3 times he denied Jesus. Luke 22:61 states that upon the third denial that Jesus looked at him, he remembered Jesus' prediction, and he went into the night weeping bitterly. Luke 24:34 states that the Lord soon after the resurrection appeared to Peter, but no information is given regarding this appearance and what was said. The first recorded interaction between the risen Jesus and Peter, following the resurrection, is John 21. PAINFUL CONVERSATION 1.On the betrayal night, Peter before all the disciples had emphatically declared that he would not desert J

Teen: "What Young People Bring to Jesus" by Vince Daugherty

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 9:30 MPR 4 Speaker   Speaker: Vince Daugherty   “What Young People Bring to Jesus”   Negative things teens bring to the table: Pick and choose what to pay attention to in the Bible. Teens like to have it their way. Rebellion. Teens like to be counter-cultural at times. Drama. Think they have it all figured out. Shame. Guilt. Questions/doubts. Hurts.   Need to remember that as you are growing up, you won’t be perfect and you will make mistakes, and that is okay!  Even people that we read about in the Bible made mistakes; they failed; they came up short.  Actually making mistakes, having guilt and shame can be good teachers in life.  Psalm 25:1-7.  Your brains aren’t even fully physically developed until age 25, so it’s inevitable - you will mess up, but you will get through it.  It’s not about falling down, but it’s about getting back up.  Read this when you mess up – Psalm 51.  David wrote this psalm after he messed up royally.  Admit when you make mistakes.  Learn from your mistakes.     You don’t have to have it all figured out.  It’s better to ask questions to learn which can help strengthen your faith.  Remember doubting Thomas in John 20.  Jesus gave Thomas evidence.  Don’t put off asking questions.  If you let questions and doubts fester, then that little bit of questioning and doubt can cause your faith to suffer.   Teens have a lot going on.  Matthew 11:28-30.  Think about prayer and what it does.  I Peter 5:6-7.  Jesus cares for you.     Positive things that teens bring to Christ: Youth. Energy. Confidence. Opportunities/possibilities. Desire for belonging. Responsible.   Ecclesiastes 11:9-10 and 12:1.  You are young and you need to rejoice in this.  Teens have many stresses in life, but it seems like as you get older, the stress can go up (even with good things).  So, rejoice in being young.   As a youth, you have opportunities and many possibilities.  Acts 2:17.  Young people typically have dreams, visions for their lives.  There are endless possibilities as to what you can do.   Even the most rebellious teens want to belong.  Ephesians 2:11-13.  At one time, you were without hope, apart from Christ, but with Christ - you have a built-in family.  Remember the times that you felt all alone, but in Christ, you are never alone.  Ephesians 2:19-22.     What should we be working toward as youth?  1 Timothy 4:12.  Work toward consistency.  Sometimes older people look at the teens and just think they don’t have it all figured out - they are inconsistent.  Teens should show up anyway - be consistent, even if they mess up at times.  Don’t give anyone an excuse to look down on you.  Be an example.     Philippians 4:8.  Seek out the good in the world and you will find good.  Think about the things that are lovely and praiseworthy.   2 Peter 1:5-7.  Add to your faith.  You aren’t just baptized and then that’s it.  Keep adding to your faith.  Continue to grow in your faith.    Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GdlEMlF541I   Duration 41:28

"The Lord's Prayer" by Mike Vestal

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 9:30AM Auditorium Speaker   Speaker:  Mike Vestal   John 17 - The High Priestly Prayer 17 When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, 2 since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. 3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed. 6 “I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything that you have given me is from you. 8 For I have given them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. 9 I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world but for those whom you have given me, for they are yours. 10 All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 And I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them in your name, which you have given me, that they may be one, even as we are one. 12 While I was with them, I kept them in your name, which you have given me. I have guarded them, and not one of them has been lost except the son of destruction, that the Scripture might be fulfilled. 13 But now I am coming to you, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves. 14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. 19 And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. 20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. 24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”     "The Lord's Prayer" - Best prayer ever prayed. Jesus is praying - His hour had come - John 12:23-27; John 13:1, John 17:1 "Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?" Prayer is how Jesus steered his life while he was on earth. Prayer is measured by its length, but its depth and breadth. John 17:1-5 - Glory. The glory of God should be at the forefront of your prayers. v6-12 - Security. To be kept by God. To keep God's word. v12-19 - Sanctity. Holiness / godly character. - John 17:17. v20-23 - Unity. v24-26 - Eternity.   v1-5 - Jesus prays for himself v6-19 - Jesus prays for the apostles. v20-26 - Jesus prays for those who will believe the word.   The setting of the prayer - Jesus looked up. He had been waiting for this. He addresses God as his father - unique relationship.

"The Coming of the Spirit" by Neal Pollard

April 21, 2024 - Sunday 8:00AM Auditorium Speaker   Speaker: Neal Pollard   John 14-16 - I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life 14 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves. 12 “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 13 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit 15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, 17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you. 18 “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. 20 In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. 21 Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me. 25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. 28 You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no claim on me, 31 but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go from here. I Am the True Vine 15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you.
