Help with footwork coaching

Ian, I am currently 14 years old, and my school has a lot of good tennis players. We do Saturday clinics and this one day, the pro had us do some footwork drills. He said to first take big steps to cover the amount of ground you need to cover. Then, once you’ve got in position, to take a bunch of little steps, as if to micro-adjust your position to make perfect contact with the ball. I agree you should have good footwork, but he said he wanted to HEAR us sliding and making noise with our feet along the court. I didn’t like THAT. I usually take little steps after I’ve got into position, but it usually doesn’t make a lot of noise. I also noticed that every time I tried footwork his way, I would end up going too far, as I was already in position after two big steps, and the ball was basically going to hit my chest if I didn’t swing. After about 5 minutes, he gathered my group and said that we were making “great improvements”, but he still wanted to hear us making noise on the ground. He was looking pointedly at me when he said this. We began point play, and my strokes instantly improved when I retreated back to my original forehand footwork. Please make an episode on this so I know who was right. Thanks, Anonymous (haha you thought I was gonna tell you my name?)

Please please PLEASE do an episode on ball machines! I don’t care how long it is, I want an in depth review on best machines, best budget machines, and everything in between! (Maybe also best brands?) Side note: maybe you could review rackets or shoes or something? You could, like, rank the best rackets of 2024 or something. Anyways, thanks for reading (hopefully lol), and I hope you have a good day! Bye! Sorry, one update: I don’t have a lot of time in my day to listen to these really. I listen when I walk my dog, but I only walk for 10 mins or so. I know you do a lot of 7-15 minute mental toughness episodes, but please start making more “mini” episodes or something like that. Thanks!
Thank you Ian 🙏🏽

Keep going man!! I know it seems like you’re going backwards, but know there’s always a new group of eager tennis players who are trying to become better. Your content is amazing and I implement ALL the things you say. I believe I’m one of the 1% you mentioned and still listen to you. Praying for you and your team 🙏🏽❤️❤️❤️
Favorite podcast on tennis

Ian shares great insights on all aspects of improving your tennis, from stroke technique to strategy to the mental game. My favorite episode is his interview with Dr. Peter Scales. I’m going to try to listen to that episode the day before I play a USTA match because it really helps me focus and to remember to enjoy the game. Smelling the tennis ball may seem strange, but it works for me!
