Feed Your Dog Facts

I lost my cat to Hill’s Science Diet & the 2007 pet food recall that was responsible for killing thousands & thousands of pets. At the time, I was, as most, blindly listening to my vet who assured me this was the absolute best food. I was absolutely horrified when I started to research it all & began to understand everything I thought I knew was a lie & a big charade. There were absolutely no repercussions for what the pet food industry (or my vet, I felt) were responsible for, and in fact, they had to be MADE to take the food off the shelves, because they continued to sell it even after receiving hundreds if not thousands of complaints of animal’s dying/sick. They could not even be bothered to show up at the congressional hearing, nor were they made to face any kind of consequences whatsoever. It was like a bad joke- these people make their own rules & guidelines? Based on what they want to sell us, not what’s god for my pet?!? That was the day I decided never again would I trust my animal’s health to anyone else, and since that day I haven’t. My animals all eat a species appropriate, fresh food diet, and I have a vet who understands me & what I believe, and is ok with knowing that I’m always going to question & research everything before it goes into their bodies. She is my true partner in their care, & although it took going thru countless other vets to find her, I am so grateful I did. I would encourage everyone else never to settle for anything less. If your vet talks down to you or acts insulted you’d question their suggestions/diagnosis, then find someone else. We are all infallible, even doctors. And the ones who do not respect your opinions & beliefs & who arent open that they might actually learn something from clients aren’t in it for anything but their own egos. Sorry for the tangent, but if you ever feed your pet what ultimately kills it, it will change you forever. I just cannot believe it’s taken now going on almost 20yrs for it all to come full circle. FINALLY, people are starting to see big pet food/pet food industry for what it is. My absolute terror, is when better foods start to take market share again, as we know they are, what will they do?? Their DCM scheme we all knew was bogus has finally been called out, along with there being absolutely nothing “prescription” about that garbage in a bag they call “food.” We all know they won’t continue to bleed money & lose market share without some kind of action. My horror is they will begin to do to low carb/fresh food what they’ve done with everything good through the years that has come along & competed with their market shares - Orijen /Acana being the latest….they quietly buy these companies & then cut corners & ruin it all by trying to do it as cheaply as possible, all at the expense of our beloved animals. Anyway, although I know a ton about the science behind it all at this point, Daniel, I’d literally kiss you on the mouth if I could for what you are doing to hold these people accountable. I know this is mostly about the DCM issue, but it feels a bit like justice for my young, otherwise healthy cat whom I lost all those years ago for no reason other than greed. I truly & with all my heart believe you are here in this life, for just this moment, to get justice for all the animals & their owners who can’t. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, truly.
