Books of Some Substance

The unofficial podcast of literary misfits everywhere who want to engage with books of "substance" (i.e. serious, respected, heavy, philosophical, classic), or at least considered such.

You’ve been my partners in Proust as I work through In Search of Lost Time. You always seem to speak what’s in my heart and am embarrassed to admit but you also remind me of the beauty of the prose and flashes of incredible insight. I love hearing passages read aloud. This show is soul food.
Yes! Some Substance!

Best lit podcast, great format and discussions where I really feel invested in the content and get a lot out of their conversations. Refreshing to listen to real people who know (and obviously care) about books/art and can have genuine conversations about them.

Disingenuous. Criticizes books on personal taste and judges books by their cover. Now this sounds like I’m being ludicrous, however, they freely admit it. A podcast that is an affront to literary studies.

Such a superficial reading of this unique book. How proud these boys are of disliking Nabokov. It’s quite embarrassing.
Favorite book podcast!

I just finished listening the final episode on War and Peace. Great series! Wish it didn’t have to end and kind of hole you all will read and discuss another book by Tolstoy soon. I love the depth of conversation mixed with friendly banter in this podcast! Thank you all for putting this content out for us to listen to it. I remember listening to one of your first episodes and I felt like I was sitting next to some friends having a great conversation about a book. Love this!

Just subscribed to the podcast today and can't wait to listen. Love the print they are offering from their latest episode.
Deep conversations about art

Debating life and death of art, rise and fall of heroes and trying to answer the question whether the material is of substance and worth reading. The setting is a mysterious place with deeper personal reflections on the writings and their place in life. Very enjoyable!
I like it when they curse

A podcast built around the idea of discussing classic literature's relevance in our modern lives, though not necessarily aimed at the ivory tower of academia. It picks apart literature as art, as entertainment, as something that's meant to be accessible and chewed upon by all. The listener can also subscribe to B.O.S.S. and receive invitations for the next reading selections ahead of time, thus giving it a truly inclusive podcast-as-bookclub / bookclub-as podcast conversational feel.
