REWIND - Motown Records: Pimps, Prostitutes, the Detroit Mafia and the Sound of Teenage America

REWIND - Motown Records: Pimps, Prostitutes, the Detroit Mafia and the Sound of Teenage America

Motown Records is one of the most successful musical industry endeavors of all time. The music and the megastars Motown produced, like Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, and the Jackson 5, defined a generation. But that success is marred by rumors – rumors that the record label and its innovative owner were controlled by the "black hand" of the white American mob.

Chris Cornell (All Access): Bad Trips, Crooked DEA Agents, and Four Octaves of Sheer Power

Chris Cornell (All Access): Bad Trips, Crooked DEA Agents, and Four Octaves of Sheer Power

As a teenager, Chris Cornell was traumatized by a bad PCP trip that turned him into a recluse for years. Music pulled him out of the darkness when he discovered his four-octave voice by accident – A voice he used to incredible effect as the frontman for both Soundgarden and Audioslave. But the darkness never really went away – it was there in his hometown of Seattle, where tragedies closed the chapter on grunge, and in his music, which was authentic to the very end.

REWIND - Tom Petty: House Fires, Hiding a Heroin Habit, and Run-Down Dreams

REWIND - Tom Petty: House Fires, Hiding a Heroin Habit, and Run-Down Dreams

When a mystery arsonist set Tom Petty’s house on fire in the late 1980s, he barely escaped with his life. But there was another danger looming around the corner — a heroin addiction that drove him into a pit of isolation from his family, his fame, and his bandmates. Petty barely hoisted himself of it. The Heartbreakers’ bass player, Howie Epstein, wasn't so lucky. After the first phase of Tom Petty’s career burned to the ground, the stage was set for a descent into depression, dependency, and a triumphant turn-of-the-century return.

Haters gonna hate? 🤣

Jake is so talented and his story telling skills are off the charts. Not many people can tell stories the way Jake does. To put the icing on the cake, these are stories about legends. Just because he tells a story about a legend you don't like you're gonna hate? lOL. As Jake reminds us, hard genre lines are for the 80's (thanks for that lil tidbit Jake). Jake has his own unhinged appreciation for all kinds of unhinged genius and for that I appreciate him. Listen for good storytelling while also learning something new-maybe add new legends to your own roster of wild genius to admire.
