Good stuff, Dale!
Finally got around to listening to this after you told me about it at the Target I used to work at. I got so tired of hearing those AT&T “reps” blabber to people who were just trying to shop.
Side note: Your interview outfit described in episode 1 sounds freakin’ brilliant!!!!
Joyful look into a very odd little world
I went down a rabbit hole while reminiscing about former friends who have fallen into MLM schemes, and that led me to learning about the particularly strange permutation colloquially known as Devilcorps or “the business.” Even though it’s a few years old now, Juicy Rhino’s podcast is one of the canonical references on the topic, and he clearly put a lot of effort into it. His love shines through: for his local community, for the sheer weirdness and obscurity of the topic, and even for the people trying to find their way out of getting roped into this mess. Substituting skits with his young relatives in place of surrepetitious recording isn’t just a means of maintaining his ethical standards, it genuinely works to elevate the absurdity of what he’s covering. This is a crucial slice of Americana, warts and all, from a particularly troubled time.
Loved it! Thank you, this podcast helped me get out!
I worked for Cydcore for 5 months. The name of the company was “Slight Edge.” In Philadelphia. I had gotten promoted to Corporate Trainer and was one of the top sellers in our office. After being screwed over again and again and work out I found this podcast and Slave Circle. Y’all saved me thank you! I now work in finance and have never been happier.
