Wild Brews Ep 03: How to be you? with Dr. Angel Alcala

Wild Brews Ep 03: How to be you? with Dr. Angel Alcala

Want to know what it was like to be a biologist back in the days? Get to know Dr. Angel C. Alala as he talks about his life as a biologist (he's both a marine biologist AND a herpetologist!) in this special episode of Wild Brews this October 24, 2020 at 4 pm.

Not only that, you’d get to hear some mentoring advice, life lessons, eureka moments, stories from the field — all these from a national scientist!

Dr. Angel Alcala was conferred with the rank of National Scientist in 2014 for his research on the ecology and diversity of reptiles and amphibians, marine biodiversity, and marine protected areas. He received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service in 1992, which acknowledged his pioneering scientific leadership in conserving and restoring coral reefs. In 2017, he was named as ASEAN Biodiversity Hero.

Wild Brews Ep 02: History shaped by biogeography and zooarchaeology

Wild Brews Ep 02: History shaped by biogeography and zooarchaeology

Biogeography examines geographical patterns of biological diversity that are shaped by climate and geological history. Zooarchaeology studies animal remains in relation to past human activities or past human environments. And we know that history is the study of the past in relation to the present developments and future hopes. So how do these three relate to each other? How are these relevant for the Philippine biodiversity and its conservation?

Let our two special guests Dr. Lawrence Heaney of the Field Museum and Dr. Janine Ochoa of the University of the Philippines Diliman with our guest host Dr. Arvin Diesmos of the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines shine light on these topics as they talk about history shaped by biogeography and zooarchaeology on this episode of WildBrews.

Wild Brews Ep 01: Conservation in the time of pandemic

Wild Brews Ep 01: Conservation in the time of pandemic

This pandemic has brought a halt to most of our plans, but what is its impact on biodiversity conservation? How are conservationists on the ground dealing with biodiversity issues on top of a global pandemic?

Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines brings you WILD BREWS: a biodiversity talk show featuring people from various fields talking about different topics.

In this PILOT episode, we'll be having three Whitley awardees, Indira Lacera-Widmann of Katala Foundation, Jayson Ibañez of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, and Marites Gatan-Balbas of Mabuwaya Foundation, talk about conservation in the time of pandemic.

The Whitley Awards recognizes deserving individuals committed to precipitating long-lasting conservation benefits on the ground, with the support of local communities.
