Episode 19 - The one with Agony Aunts, Electric Cars and Friend-zoned and sustained

This week we look at the inefficiencies of petrol cars and search nature for something as equally un-parsimonious with its fuel. We shove Frère Jacques through our anagram poetry section that we call My Taragon Pea. Whilst Barry suggested Electric cars, Sam proffered Friend-zoned and sustained where we look at the hapless characters stuck  literally forever in the friend zone. We have another new section where we look at what's happening down on the farm but literally the last section looks at the original agony aunt whose advice was dispensed for a thousand years. Take that Deirdre.

Episode 18 The one where we show that supermodels only weigh 1Kg, Nanci Griffith needs some help with alternative coping strategies and we try and identify all the influences for A Knights Tale, film, poem and poem.

Our Brainy Lecture looks for mass and finds it in the most surprising place. In Songs under the Microscope we explore Nanci Griffith's response to a setback in her 1993 hit Tecumseh Valley. Unlike every other podcast we are in colour, and the colour this week is Bastard Amber so point your browsers at Pantone 148C.  Our section that goes by many names including  A Greyer Tampon and Mangy Port Area considers the Anagram form of the poem Fi by Pudgy Rail Drink.  A Sauce a Sauce My Kingdom for a Sauce is going to be a mouth amusing Sichuan Sauce. In Literally the Last Section we review the film A Knight’s Tale and how Helgeland wove the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer and the Arthurian Legends into the plot.

Episode 17- The one where statistics show that the world probably does to exist, we prepare a sorrel sauce for Yorgos Lanthamos’s The Lobster. and Kafka's monstrous insect. All this in Pantone 715C

Episode 17- The one where statistics show that the world probably does to exist, we prepare a sorrel sauce for Yorgos Lanthamos’s The Lobster. and Kafka's monstrous insect. All this in Pantone 715C

This week our Brainy lecture considers Boltzman Brains and shows why, on balance, you probably do not exist. Well, you do, but no one else.  The Metamorphosis and The Lobster have the super plastic human mind dealing with absurd propositions whilst still trying to get to work on time. Yorgos Lanthamos was silent about the sauce that would be served with the lobster, but we are serving it with a tangy sorrel sauce. Our misheard lyrics have had me singing “Might as well face it, you’re a dick with a glove” all week.

This week's podcast is sponsored by the rhythm hailing app, Tuba.

Episode 16 - The one where we wonder if Entropy made life inevitable, if Indiana Jones caused World War II and why Hot Chocolate sing that they remove umbilicals

Episode 16 - The one where we wonder if Entropy made life inevitable, if Indiana Jones caused World War II and why Hot Chocolate sing that they remove umbilicals

Our Brainy Lecture discusses entropy, and considers the theory that life is just a consequence of entropy. We try and bring some structure and order to the debate.
Our Songs under the Microscope continues with its next top ten misheard lyrics. Listen on if you want to know who removes umbilicals and who pees in the corner.
In A Sauce A Sauce my Kingdom for a Sauce - we go back to the fundamentals of French cuisine with the Sauce Supreme a daughter sauce of the Velouté that we first met way back in Episode 1.
Following on from our pioneering work last week with the first podcast in colour, we are continue our optically stimulating section and in anticipation you are going to divert your browsers to Pantone 2206C, a colour that is so much more than a 2014 Renault 19.
We have our anagram poetry section that goes by many names including Mangy Port Area and Rate my paragon.
In Literally the Last section we consider not only the question of whether Indiana Jones is just the worst archeologist but also whether he was one of the worst human beings.

Episode 15 - The Ethics of gene editing, Broken Proverbs, Misheard Lyrics and the Rhythm of English

Episode 15 - The Ethics of gene editing, Broken Proverbs, Misheard Lyrics and the Rhythm of English

With CRISPR Cas9 gene editing a dystopian future could be just twenty years away. We look at the developments and consider the risks, benefits and ethics.
In a Podcasting first we now introduce a podcast with colour, literally with Pantone 448C.
Our songs under the Microscope continues its voyage into misheard lyrics.

We stress test some common proverbs and found them inaccurate at best and the purveyor of very poor counsel at worst.

Finally, we consider how language dictates the rhythm and pace of poetry and prose that can be written. Ian takes exception to the rule that you cannot write a Limerick in French; so he writes one.

Episode 14 - The one with 27 metre high CRISPR babies, misheard lyrics under the microscope and a decidedly dodgy book review of 50 shades of Grey

Episode 14 - The one with 27 metre high CRISPR babies, misheard lyrics under the microscope and a decidedly dodgy book review of 50 shades of Grey

This week's Brainy Lecture considers Final Cut Pro for genes with the CRISPR gene splicing technology. We look at how it works and how it may help humanity. We spot the first misuse of the technology was well.
We welcome back our Songs under the Microscope with a special misheard lyrics edition.
Stand by your shallots as this week we are giving our kingdom for a red wine sauce.
In Literally the Last Section we  finally tackle 50 Shades of Grey and we compare and contrast it to Harry Potter. This review was researched by a light perusal through the pages and a heavy application of snark. If you have complaints please forward them to inner_goddess@frenziedandsustained.com

Looking for signs of intelligent life in the universe?

To quote Jane Wagner as spoken by Lily Tomlin: “Reality is nothing but a collective hunch”. So, gather your collective and be sure you include Ian Spector or you’ll be missing some really important bits! And don’t forget to wear your favorite hat, unless of course, you’re indoors.

Great host! Mind blowing topics! 🤯

Listened to episode 2 on Quantum entanglement. Love the barbershop style acapella! It is a great musical touch for the title. Your voice throughout is evenly paced and light hearted.

It feels like you enjoy learning as much as you enjoy teaching. Before listening, I did not know about quantum entanglement. But you make it super fun and enjoyable. Making this subject entertaining is no easy feat.

Thank you for piquing curiosity with theories and discoveries. Recommend this podcast to anyone who enjoys levity and laughter while having their mind blown.
