About Maxime Bilet:
Maxime Bilet first earned a bachelor’s degree in English and
American literature and creative writing from Skidmore College. He then came to
ICE and, after graduating, quickly climbed the ranks to become the
executive chef of Jack’s Luxury Oyster Bar — a position he earned a year
after graduation. Next, he moved to London where he worked for famed chef
Heston Blumenthal at The Fat Duck, first as a prep cook then as a lab cook in
the chef’s development kitchen.
In March 2008, he became the lead development chef for
Seattle-based Intellectual Ventures, former Microsoft Chief Technology Officer
Nathan Myrhvold’s Seattle-based company behind the celebrated six-volume "Modernist Cuisine." Bilet was central in creating the book’s
revolutionary techniques, recipes, and photographs. He also co-authored The
Modernist Cooks at Home, a guide for non-professionals. The books have received
numerous awards, including distinctions from the James Beard Foundation and the
International Association of Culinary Professionals.

Jay is a scientist in Tucson, AZ. His current interests include using noninvasive brain stimulation to enhance cognition and well-being. Jay is presently investigating whether focused ultrasound can be used to augment meditation practice.

Shinzen Young is an American mindfulness teacher and neuroscience research consultant.
His systematic approach to categorizing, adapting and teaching meditation, known as Unified

University and the University of Vermont in the burgeoning field of contemplative
neuroscience.

Paul Syltie is a native of southwestern Minnesota, raised on a crop and dairy farm, who pursued an education in soils and crops at the University of Minnesota for a Bachelor’s Degree, and the University of Illinois for a Master’s Degree, which was interrupted by service in the U.S. Army. He received a Ph.D. from North Dakota State University in soil fertility in 1980. His major interests have been in the area of soil fertility as it relates to human and animal health, and as a result moved into studies on bio-stimulants as they relate to crop yield and quality enhancement and other beneficial effects, first with Appropriate Technology Limited based in Dallas, Texas, and then with Vital Earth Resources based in Gladewater, Texas. As a researcher and consultant with these firms, he has traveled extensively worldwide to promote the use of bio-stimulants for the improvement of agricultural productivity in many nations. He has worked for 43 years with bio-stimulants, and has spent the last 27 years as research director for Vital Earth Resources. In that capacity he has proven the great utility of brassinosteroids and other novel plant growth regulators in improving crops yields and quality, disease resistance, and fertility utilization for a wide variety of crops. He is the author of several books and many scientific and other publications. He and his wife of 56 years have six children and 15 grandchildren.

With over 15 years AgTech industry experience, Phil currently serves as the Director of Open Innovation & Outreach for Crop Science R&D at Bayer, based in St. Louis, MO. He plays a central role in fostering strategic relationships around the globe and developing programs to enable novel ways of accelerating innovation to support Bayer’s R&D pipeline and develop external innovation ecosystems.
A strong champion for both external and pre-competitive partnering as a driving force for innovation and change, Phil has held multiple leadership roles at Bayer focused on delivering collaborative approaches to enable R&D and enhance the company’s position as a thought leader in open innovation and partnering across the public and private sectors. He was appointed a Bayer Science Fellow in 2020. Before joining industry, Phil trained as a Plant Cell Biologist, receiving his Ph.D. from the John Innes Centre in Norwich, U.K., and held post-doctoral positions at The University of Leeds and The University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill, as well as a British Council Fellowship at the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
Outside of Bayer, Phil is active in the academic and global innovation communities as a member of multiple advisory boards and professional society committees. He currently lives in St. Charles, MO, with his wife, Amanda, and their four children.

Sue Blackmore, Ph.D., is a freelance writer, lecturer and broadcaster, and Visiting Professor at the University of the Plymouth. She has a degree in psychology and physiology from Oxford University (1973) and a PhD in parapsychology from the University of Surrey (1980). Her research interests include memes, evolutionary theory, consciousness, and meditation. She practices Zen and campaigns for drug legalization.
She writes for several magazines and newspapers, a blog for the Guardian newspaper and is a frequent contributor and presenter on radio and television. She is author of over sixty academic articles, about fifty book contributions, many book reviews and a number of books.
