    We continue learning about Afrikan Queens and sheroes through the lens of our modern sheroes and community leaders and In this episode we hear from Yoma Smith a performer and community leader who shares the story of the warrior Queen Amina of Zaria and also princess Salma of Zanzibar and Queen Ndata.

    Yoma Smith is a marketing & communications professional who loves arts and culture. She applies her vocational skills in supporting community projects; and exercises her creative skills in writing, presenting and performing songs, poetry, and spoken word … [on themes relating to heritage, diversity, social and environmental justice, personal growth and local community development].

    She is a founding co-director of Black Women Let Loose Theatre Company CIC - created to highlight the experiences of women of African and Caribbean descent. Company members write, develop and perform their own material; and have delivered several innovative, live and virtual performances to wide-ranging audiences in Bristol and beyond. www.bwlltheatre.co.uk

    Episode 6 - we meet academic and Professor at University of Bristol,

    Marie-Annick Gournet.  Marie is also a Director of Razana Afrika who we have collaborated with to produce this series Afrikan Queens.  Marie shares her incredible research and knowledge of Queen Nandi, the mother of Shaka Zulu, the most iconic of Afrikan heroes. As with all the women in this series there is so little documentation, but Marie has searched archives and listened to stories and shares these with us in this episode and also explains why having a series like this is so important. We also hear about Solitude, the Warrior Woman of Guadeloupe who is barely known in history.
