Helpful in Processing
This podcast raises great questions without being too quick to jump to answers. My husband and I have used this as springboard in many of our own conversations as we think about church today. We are grateful for the emphasis on following the leading of the Spirit and invitation to think critically about church structures that need to be addressed.
There is a way forward
This is a podcast for experienced pastors by experienced pastors who have come to see that the way ministry is being done today in evangelical churches may no longer work going forward; how forms of church ministry up to this time have in some ways burdened pastors, their families, and their parishioners. It discusses things that pastor heretofore have not felt safe to discuss. This podcast deals with the recent phenomenon of christians bailing on church and the current zeitgeist of “deconstruction”, and understanding where real criticisms of modern church life may be valid. But is that all there is? This podcast will also explores how an honest and legitimate “reconstruction” can take place for those of us not willing to give up on church; not the return to what has already been tried & done, nor to abandon the notion of church, but to rethink what it means to be church today, and that there is new life after deconstruction. This will require us to consider new ways to do the work of the church, by going back to our roots, re-examine our assumptions, and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to us afresh today. Highly recommend.
Can’t wait to hear more
So refreshing to hear these veteran pastors talk openly, honestly and vulnerably about HOW we do mainstream church today.
So much hit close to home for me - lots of things that aren’t really safe to discuss at church, or sometimes even with other people at church.
But we need to be willing to be real - to ask the hard questions and stop enabling the toxic behaviors that too often plague our churches.
That’s exactly what seems to be going on in this podcast - two pastors actually being very real about these topics of authenticity, methodology, and the ways that culture is challenging them to be better.
