Managing data collection in your business is not as easy as it looks to avoid breaches and regulatory issues businesses must apply common principles like data transparency; data privacy cannot be overemphasized, Users, Consumers, Customers or individuals using your services must clearly understand and consent to providing their data, its usage, storage and how there are protected. As a privacy lawyer or privacy officer, you must understand the business of your client and the laws regulating this area to prepare a good privacy policy. Businesses must fathom the fact that customers, users or clients have rights from the right to access, right to delete, right to rectify, collect etc plus these rights vary as per territorial jurisdiction. I was privileged to draft the privacy policy for the most renowned dating site/App Chat&Yamo, I had to tailor this privacy policy to suit their needs and activities. Clients must know how long their data shall be retained, as a Privacy lawyer or Privacy officer, you insert different forms of retention depending on the data, ordinary personal data might be retained for longer periods contrary to sensitive data. You must as a business and lawyer keep up with new laws, educate your staff or employees about the importance of keeping data and the damages and reputation threats it will cost you if this is breached. Have a privacy plan and of course, use secure software to avoid cyber attacks and protect clients personal data.
