Quickie Episode for you all about self-confidence and improving your perspective on your own self-worth.
"Imposter Syndrome" is common amongst coaches and educators. Particularly as a coach, often you might feel there is a discrepancy between "walking the walk" and "talking the talk". For example, you might believe you're a terrible runner like Jason, or be horrified by the thought of any workout with a barbell like Roz. But that doesn't preclude you from being an amazing coach with the ability to coach someone else effectively in these areas.
There's a fine balance to find when it comes to believing in yourself and simply putting on bravado. The "fake it till you make it" tactic will only get you so far. You have to believe in your own value and when you do, you will be able to genuinely portray your expertise. People are naturally attracted to authenticity and naturally skeptical of what might seem forced behavior.
As coaches and educators, we want to embody boldness without bravado, appear confident without appearing cocky and we want to reassure ourselves without creating delusion. Many of us are plagued with self-doubt and struggle to believe that we are uniquely awesome individuals despite the fact that we have many successes in life.
- Do you have a roof over your head?
- Are you surrounded by amazing friends?
- Do people show genuine attention to things you have to say?
- Do you care about others?
The point is, these things don't necessarily define us, but they can help point you to a conclusion that you are deserving of positive self-talk and confidence in yourself and your ability to achieve greatness. Listen in as Roz asks Jason how he cultivates confidence in spite of those voices inside his head trying to convince him otherwise.
