Exploring the bounds of cinema every week!

    Bad Education (2019)

    Bad Education (2019)

SOME PEOPLE LEARN THE HARD WAY.

Happy Pride to all of our LGBTQIA+ community, we love you so much! This month we're celebrating you and watching all queer cinema. We start with Jackson's pick BAD EDUCATION starring Hugh Jackman and a whole bunch of character actors. We talk through the complicated queer content, the HBO Original to Emmys pipeline, and how much we love journalism movies. Also we catch up with Joey after a week off, Josh starts their Pride watchlist, Sutherland watches The Lion King for the first time, Jackson chugs along on his X-Men watchthrough, and there's so much McRib talk. We calculated the exact number of McRibs you could purchase using the money that was embezzled by the characters in Bad Education. It was crazy.

    White Christmas (1954)

    White Christmas (1954)

JOYOUS ENTERTAINMENT FOR EVERY SEASON, ANY YEAR!!!!

You see that?! The tagline says "ANY SEASON" so it's only a little bit weird that we're covering a totemic Christmas classic in late May. Anyways, this week is WHITE CHRISTMAS, our first Michael Curtiz and the conclusion to the chaos that comes with Sutherland picking for an entire month. We talk life getting in the way of our recording schedule, watching classic Hollywood musicals as cozy little comfort movies, and if Vistavision is the future. Also lots of Mad Max talk at the beginning, some rapid-fire thoughts on a bunch of other films right after, a letter from a sadly absent Joey, and Josh reigning with an iron fist for next month's theme.

    The Witch (2015)

    EVIL TAKES MANY FORMS.

"This is Chicago all over again!"

In one of our most off-the-rails episodes yet, we head into the woods to discuss Robert Eggers' THE VVITCH! Josh goes all in on Black Philip, Satan himself curses Joey's audio, we debate evil itself! I don't even know how to start describing this episode, it's crazy... We also talk a little bit of Todd Haynes, Brian De Palma, Apes, and picking a Christmas movie next week right off the bat.

BONUS: Anatomy of a Murder (1959)

BONUS: Anatomy of a Murder (1959)

NO SEARCH OF HUMAN EMOTIONS HAS EVER PROBED SO DEEPLY, SO TRUTHFULLY AS… ANATOMY OF A MURDER.

To celebrate our new host and best friend Sutherland's birthday, we dive headfirst into some legal proceedings with his pick of Otto Preminger's ANATOMY OF A MURDER! We talk how it handles the moral ambiguity of the American court system, Jimmy Stewart's voice, and if this movie was actually made for Sutherland.

Note: so so sorry about some issues with the sound in a couple parts. I did my best to edit it and make everything listenable, but we had some issues in recording that came through. - Josh

    Corpse Bride (2005)

    THERE’S BEEN A GRAVE MISUNDERSTANDING.

Potentially the strangest month in the show's short history continues as Sutherland picks for us Tim Burton and Mike Johnson's (not the current Speaker of the House, don't worry we checked) CORPSE BRIDE! We talk all things stop-motion, cinematography and lighting in the world of animated films, and if every movie should be 70 minutes long. We also briefly talk about The Fall Guy, Pink Floyd: The Wall, X-Men '97, Harry Potter, and The Shining.

    The Firm (1993)

    The Firm (1993)

POWER CAN BE MURDER TO RESIST.

This week, we're going back to last July for another Tom Cruise pick, this time Sydney Pollack's The Firm. We break down our history with John Grisham, ask if 3.4 is the best average rating a movie can have on Letterboxd, and question why Jigsaw can run that fast. Joey talks Chernobyl, Josh sees an all time favorite in theaters for the first time, Jackson keeps rolling through X-Men: The Animated Series, and Sutherland watches a "hit" new Paramount+ show.
