What Are You Praying For? | Conquering Love

Do you feel overwhelmed by anxiety and uncertainty?  Have you wondered where real security can be found when life feels fragile?  What holds you together when fear keeps pressing in?  Can anything separate you from the love of Jesus?    Romans 8 speaks directly into the fears and pressures we carry every day. Jesus meets us in our weakness with a conquering love that cannot be broken by suffering, failure, loss, or fear. The gospel gives us something solid to build on because our hope rests in what Christ has already done through his death and resurrection. When life feels unstable, the love of God becomes a strong tower that steadies our souls and carries us safely through every season.    This message invites you to rest in the unshakable love of Christ and remember that God is for you. Even when anxiety rises and hardship feels close, the Holy Spirit reminds us that we belong to Jesus and are held securely by his grace. If you are searching for peace, strength in suffering, hope for the future, or assurance of salvation, this sermon points to the Savior whose love never lets go.    Scripture: Romans 8:31 to 39  “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31  “Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:39    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. https://firstprescos.org/belong

What Are You Praying For? | Renewed Creation

Do you ever look at the world and wonder why everything feels so broken?  Are you carrying grief, exhaustion, or disappointment you cannot put into words?  Do you long for hope that feels steady when life feels uncertain?    Romans 8 reminds us that Jesus meets us in a hurting world with real hope. The gospel tells us that creation was made good by God, broken by sin, and is being restored through Christ. Jesus died and rose again to begin renewing all things, and that good news gives us something solid to stand on when life feels heavy. Even when we do not know how to pray, the Holy Spirit prays with us and for us in our weakness. God has not abandoned this world. He is still at work bringing healing, redemption, and life.    If you have ever wrestled with anxiety about the future, pain over the state of the world, or questions about where God is in suffering, this message speaks directly to that ache. Scripture invites us to groan honestly, trust deeply, and hold onto the promise that God is making all things new. In Jesus, your story is not abandoned, and this broken world is not beyond redemption. The Lord is still holding all things together with love, purpose, and resurrection hope.    Scripture: Romans 8:22 to 30  “The whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” Romans 8:22  “In all things God works for the good of those who love him.” Romans 8:28    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. https://firstprescos.org/belong

What Are You Praying For? | Enduring Hope

Are you holding onto hope for someone you love?  Do you ever feel like giving up when nothing seems to change?  Where do you find strength when life feels like a spiritual battle?    In the middle of real struggle, Jesus meets you with good news. Through his life, death, and resurrection, he sets you free from sin and brings you into the family of God. This gospel is a foundation that holds when everything else feels uncertain. The Holy Spirit reminds you that you belong to God, not as a distant idea but as a deeply loved child, and that truth steadies your heart with enduring hope.    You are not alone in the fight for hope. When discouragement whispers that nothing will change, the Spirit speaks a better word over your life. You are a child of God, an heir with Christ, and your story is not finished. Whether you are praying for a wayward child, healing in your family, or strength to keep going, God invites you to hold on. Even in suffering, there is a future filled with glory, and that promise gives you courage to keep praying, keep trusting, and keep hoping in Jesus.    Scripture: Romans 8:16 to 18  “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Romans 8:16  “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. https://firstprescos.org/belong

What Are You Praying For? | Resurrection Life

Do you ever feel like you are just going through the motions of life?  Do you look around and wonder why so many people seem exhausted or empty?  Do you feel the pull between who you want to be and what you actually do?  What if there is a real way to be fully alive?    In Jesus, God meets us right in that tension with good news. Scripture says there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus does what we could never do on our own. He frees us from sin and brings us into real life with him. The gospel is a foundation that steadies our souls, something solid to build on when everything else feels uncertain or broken.    You are invited into more than survival or surface level living. Life in the Spirit is a life marked by peace, purpose, and growing freedom. It is a life where God brings new growth even in places that once felt dead. As you listen, consider where your life is headed and hear the gentle invitation of Jesus to walk with him. He is forming something new in you and through you, and he may even be calling you to share that life with someone else who feels far from hope.    Scripture: Romans 8:1 to 2  “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1  “The Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:2    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. https://firstprescos.org/belong

What Are You Praying For? | Freedom From and Freedom For

Do you ever feel like you are trying to be good enough but falling short? Do you wonder if your relationship with God depends on how well you perform? Are you tired of the pressure to get everything right? What if there is a different kind of freedom waiting for you?    In Romans 7, we see that Jesus offers something deeper than religious effort. He meets us in our struggle and gives us a new way to live. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus frees you from the exhausting cycle of trying to earn God’s love. The gospel is good news because it tells you that Jesus has already done what you could never do, and that truth becomes a foundation that steadies our souls when we feel stuck or discouraged.    You are invited into a new relationship with God, one marked by love instead of pressure and freedom instead of fear. When you belong to Jesus, you are no longer defined by your failures or your striving. You are set free to live with purpose, to love others, and to grow in a life shaped by his Spirit. This is the freedom from sin and the freedom for a life that truly matters.    Scripture: Romans 7:4 to 6  “You also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead.” Romans 7:4  “We have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit.” Romans 7:6    Belong at First Pres by taking the first step: join us for worship on Sundays in person. https://firstprescos.org/belong
