Follow the Leader

For those unfamiliar with Follow the Leader, here is the premise: a group of friends play GMless games together, each using their own cast of original characters. Every "arc" is a new story, a new game that explores the relationships and worlds of these characters. Sometimes, arcs will exist within the same "universe", and therefore be stand-alone but connected adventures. Other times, the arcs exist as flash-in-the-pan one-offs, brilliant nonetheless. I have been listening since this show started, and it is incredibly gratifying to have gotten to know these myriad characters over their different journeys. There's a thrill of excitement when a player announces that they're using a character you've come to know and love, because you get to see the character brush up against new challenges, new situations, and learn more about what kind of person they are. If you're a reader of fanfic, consider: it's like each arc is an AU of a beloved franchise. Mix up the characters, throw them together, and see how they react. Plus, you get to learn about all sorts of awesome indie ttrpgs, from popular ones like Fiasco or Firebrands to lesser known beauties like Uneven Orbits or This Town Is Full Of Monsters. And did I mention they've got LGBT representation in ABUNDANCE? Not only in their characters, but in the players themselves. I truly cannot recommend this podcast enough. The people in it are awesome, the stories they tell are excellent, and it's all around just a good good time.
