Former D1 Athlete and Record Holder Marne Sullivan on Finding Her Voice, Supporting Loved Ones Who are Deaf, and the Importance of Self Care as an Athlete

Today, I talked with Marne Sullivan! Marne is a former collegiate runner who competed in track and cross country for both BC and USC! She graduated from Boston College in 2023 with a degree in Communications and Marketing. By chronicling her journey with a cochlear implant and discussing topics like accessibility and mindset, she has built an incredible community and become a powerful voice for change. Marne was honored with the National Inspirer Award from the Cochlear Foundation and the Malala Fund, received the 2023 Golden Eagles Inspiration Award, and was recognized for Boston College's Interruption Award for the female athlete who best embodies the characteristics of being a BC Eagle. She also earned the Mel Hein Award and the Coach's Award for USC Track & Field. In our conversation, we explored accessibility in college athletics, her path to sharing her story, and ways to support loved ones who are deaf. We also discussed the importance of self-love and self-care as an athlete—two essential but often overlooked topics. I loved this conversation, and I know you will, too! Why Believing in Yourself Will Change Your Life Forever with Nick Stoop-Former D1 Lacrosse Player Turned Mentor + Trainer

Today, I talked with Nick Stoop. Nick played Division One college lacrosse at Robert Morris before transferring to Eastern Connecticut State University where he fully dove into his love of sports performance, exercise science, nutrition, and biochem. Postgrad he started his own business called Custom Wellness Solutions, aiming to develop athletes using the pillars of education, nutrition, and performance. He built his own mobile gym trailer called the Beast Bus, where he trains high-level athletes in their respective sports. He also hosts lacrosse combines! Nick is the president and founder of the mental health initiative Lets Feel Good. He created a series of resistance bands called Beast Bands which are an excellent training tool. He and Hayley Scamurra started a program called the "Pro Athlete Experience" that enables people to train like the pros, giving them access to workouts, mindset techniques, nutrition information, and more! It's a great resource and I love the effort they put forth to make training accessible to everyone. Nick is one of the most passionate individuals I have ever spoken with, and I know his positive energy will help you on your journey! I am thankful he took the time to come on the pod to chat! Billie Jean King- Tennis Legend and Equality TRAILBLAZER Talks the Importance of Authenticity, How to Define Success, and Reflections on the PWHL

Today I talked with Billie Jean King!! Billie needs no introduction because she is iconic, but I want to highlight some of her incredible contributions to begin this episode. I kept this talk longer than my other episodes because Billie has so much knowledge to share! Billie has 39-time Grand Slam titles, 20 career victories at Wimbledon, and is a former world No. 1 tennis player. In 1970, she was one of nine players who broke away and signed $1 contracts making their own tour called the Virginia Slims Circuit in protest against the inequity in prize money awarded between men and women at that time. She used her position to create the Women's Tennis Association in 1973 and lobbied for equal prize money at the US Open.   90 Million people watched Billie Jean King play Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes, which she won in three straight sets. This was a landmark victory for women everywhere and is the most-viewed tennis match ever. Billie also co-founded the World Team Tennis coed circuit and started the Women's Sports Foundation. In 1990 Life magazine named King one of the 100 most important Americans of the twentieth century. She is a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame, and in 2009 she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, by Barack Obama. With her partner Ilana Kloss, she founded the Billie Jean King Foundation, which works to support the next generation of game-changing leaders in sports, education, and activism. Billie and Illana have now been together for 43 years! Billie Jean King is more excited than ever, her most recent venture is, of course, the PWHL which was wildly successful in its first year. She and Ilana are both members of the advisory board, and we discuss the league's origins in this episode. Billie is an unbelievable figure whose impact transcends the tennis court. She continues to positively impact millions of people and makes a difference in fighting for equality, LGBTQ rights, and more. It was an incredible honor to speak with her and I am so excited for you to hear this episode!
