The Moving Forward Trio conclude our discussion about experiences with transitioning out of a high-control group. While within the Message all three of us lived with a vast number of rules about dress, conduct, and lifestyle, though the specifics vary from church to church and even family to family. Leaving often means having to navigate a huge variety of choices while deconstructing our faith, tending to strained relationships, and discovering our own personal preferences. It can be overwhelming!Throughout the discussion we will address changes to our clothing and hairstyles, embracing and enjoying music, and controversial lifestyle choices such as alcohol, tattoos, and piercings.Available on Spotify, Google, and Apple Podcasts:

https://movingforwardtalkshow.com/#podcastJoin us as we chat with author and video blogger, Charity Rissler Wottrich to discuss the necessary but sometimes challenging task of establishing boundaries with friends and family when leaving a High-Control Group. What are healthy boundaries? How do we set and enforce them with people accustomed to High-Control dynamics? What are some healthy ways to enforce our boundaries, and what can we do to protect our mental health while navigating the turbulence that comes from shaking up the status quo? After leaving The Message at a young age Charity did the hard work of establishing boundaries with her family while writing her memoir, "Where the Willow Weeps" (Find it on Amazon here). Now a wife and mother, Charity has a heart to help others leaving The Message to deepen their relationship with God and take comfort in His word. In her devotional "When The Lies are Loudest" (Check it out here) she gives encouragement to help those struggling with anxiety to fight for their mental health using all the tools available for them—including the miracle of modern medicine, therapy, and self-care.Additional Links:Charity's Blog: Setting Biblical Boundaries

Episode 2: Dating, Courtship, and Weddings

The Moving Forward trio, Jennifer, Emily, and Kristi discuss their shared experience with High-Demand religious rules surrounding dating, courtship, and weddings. Jennifer and Kristi met their future spouses and married within the cult of William Branham, while Emily is currently engaged to a man she has met since leaving. The three have some common threads but plenty of variety in their lived experiences as well!

It’s not just ‘saving sex for marriage’ when you’re in a High-Demand group. The rules about dating and courtship are plentiful, inconsistent, and often completely unreasonable for couples prior to marriage. Weddings are a minefield of expectations and judgment. Emily shares some of her wedding plans free from all of that, and Jennifer and Kristi explore the good, bad, ugly, and beautiful from their own histories.

To learn more about the show, visit https://freeandclearshow.com. Moving Forward is a passion project from three former members of the pseudo-Christian sect commonly referred to as The Message—the cult following of William Branham. The goal is to demonstrate that healing happens, life goes on, and there is plenty of good and beautiful ahead as we embark on life’s journey free from our High-Demand groups. We strive to present an honest and relatable account of life after leaving. Our hope is that you might find comfort in knowing you are not alone in the struggles along the way and the scars that are left behind.
