    IBM Object Storage, Google Cloud Run Workers, MCP servers on Lambda

    IBM announces its Cloud Object Storage One Rate Plan, reinforcing an industry trend to lower object storage costs. AI is the impetus, and serverless is the beneficiary. Google announced Cloud Run Worker Pools to enable non-request serverless workloads. A fantastic blog post by an AWS Serverless hero describes his journey running MCP servers on Lambda.     Cloudflare containers, CDK Telemetry, and Chasing the News

    Cloudflare containers in beta accommodate any language. AWS announces telemetry for the Cloud Development Kit in August.     AWS Serverless MCP Server

    Launched in late May, 2025, the new AWS Serverless MCP Server gives AI coding assistants knowledge of serverless patterns, best practices, and Amazon services, acts as an intelligent companion, guiding developers through the entire application development lifecycle, from initial design to deployment, offering contextual assistance at each stage. As development progresses, the MCP server assists with building and deploying serverless applications. It provides tools for local testing, building deployment artifacts, and managing deployments. For web applications, the MCP server offers specialized support for deploying backend, frontend, or full-stack applications, and setting up custom domains.     The New PHP Installer for PHP Extensions

    There is a new way of handling PHP extensions in the works. The pressure is on to get a release out sooner than later, because the current way is failing under the newer PHP 8 releases. The new PHP Installer for Extensions ("PIE") is under development, under the auspices of The PHP Foundation. PIE is a modern take on distributing and installing PHP extentions.     PHP Foundation Officially Supports FrankenPHP

    In my opinion, something very profound just happened: the PHP Foundation announced that it is officially supporting FrankenPHP. IMO, this makes FrankenPHP the de facto standard for PHP application servers.     Free and Open Source Authentication, Concurrency Injection

    The Serverless Framework is changing their licensing for version 4. Version 3 is approaching EoL. PHP devs using the Serverless Framework will have to decide what they want to do. I will have more to say about this in my upcoming Commentary podcast. Vercel's new in-function concurrency feature is very interesting.
