Friends S04E16: 报名参加帮个忙 当众出丑费思量

怀孕后的菲比热切渴望吃肉；乔伊同意暂时吃素，这样菲比可以吃到肉，又不会有更多的动物因她而死。瑞秋假称为艾米丽开派对，实际是为了工余有更多时间和乔西亚相处；为赢得乔西亚的心，瑞秋大出其丑……她甚至把高中时的啦啦队长服都翻出来穿上。艾米丽就要返回英格兰，罗斯很是不快；瑞秋劝说道，你和艾米丽的关系不一定会完结。

Monica: Oh no, two days, you must be bummed.

Ross: Yeah, she’s got to go back to London. But you know what? I’ve been prepared for this from the start. We both knew we had two weeks together, and that’s it. Y’know.

Joey: Hey that’s what all my relationships are like.

Joshua: (noticing her) Hey-whoa-hey-hey, what was that?

Rachel: Oh, it’s just an anti-theft device.

Joshua: Then uh, what’s-what’s this? (Shows her the real anti-theft device.)

Rachel: You need that, you need that too ‘cause obviously, a thief could just tear this up. (Rips up the note.)

3. Bon Voyage Party 欢送会 

为了找机会接触Joshua，Rachel决定给Emily开一个假的bon-voyage party

bon voyage 是法语，一路顺风的意思

有一些跟bon有关的法语在英语里广泛应用比如 Bon Appetit 祝你好胃口。

Chandler: What are you talking about?

Joey: Yeah, what’ going on?

Rachel: We have to have a surprise Bon Voyage party for Emily. But it’s actually for Joshua. (Starts handing out party hats.) Look, he said he’s not ready to date, so I had to invite him to a party if I wanted to see him outside of work, and now I have the perfect opportunity to seduce him! (Hands Ross a party hat.)

4. thinker 深奥的问题 

Joey没有get到Rachel和Ross谈话的笑点说了一句That's a thinker. 

It's a thinker.这个问题很深奥啊

遇到搞不懂的事情可以这样说.

Joey: What-what-what is so funny?

Chandler: I said, "Like what?"

Joey: Now that’s a thinker.

5. need a hand ？需要帮忙么？ 

看到Rachel把自己弄得狼狈不堪Joshua 问Rachel  Need a little hand there? 

need a hand 需要帮忙么

Can you give me a hand? 能帮我个忙么？

Do you have matches？ 你需要帮忙吗？

名词match本意是“火柴”，这里用的就是词的本意。但问这句话的人也可能在询问你是否需要帮助。火柴是很小的一样东西，如果你手负重物，可能连小小的火柴也拿不出来呢。

可以设想一下场景：当你一手拿着一杯酒，两只手都占着，忽然一个人问你“You have matches?”，你就要想一想，人家是真的要抽烟所以向你借火柴，还是只是开玩笑地问你是不是需要帮忙。这是口语中经常听到的一句话，如果别人是想帮忙，你可千万别误以为人家真的是向你要火柴。

Joshua: Need uh, need a little hand there.

Rachel: Oh no-no-no! No, I got this all under control.

6. make a fool of oneself 当众出丑 

Rachel当晚出了很多丑，所以对Ross说I made a fool out of myself

Rachel: Oh, Ross, I’m sorry. I completely ruined your evening.

Ross: Yeah.

Rachel: Well, if it makes you feel any better, I made a fool out of myself.

Ross: Helps a little.

Rachel: Is there room on that step for a pathetic loser?

Ross: Yeah, have a seat.
