Dissonant Dialogues

Music educators: this one is for you! We talk about the process of deciding to major in music ed, being a music student, student teaching, and then applying for jobs on your own! How to avoid burnout, how to find your teacher identity, when do you start to “feel ready” to manage a classroom, all the things!

Dana is an incredible teacher and violinist and has brough amazing insight to this episode.

In this podcast, hosts Claire Barber and Emily Zwijack explore the occasionally uncomfortable dynamics that come with being a classical musician, surviving music school, the struggles of mental and physical health, abusive power dynamics, and so much more.

Barber (mezzo, 27, classical vocal performance BFA, 2020) and Zwijack (violinist, 22, violin performance and music education BM, 2024) are dedicated to creating a safer, trauma informed space for classical musicians who have survived abuse, burnout, disability, chronic illness, and discrimination.
