Ultimate Guide to RV Lithium Batteries

RV enthusiasts, welcome back to the Girl Camper podcast! I'm Lesa McDermott, your co-host, and today we're diving into the world of RV power systems, specifically focusing on lithium batteries. Joining us is Eva Mitic from Go Power Solar, who shares her extensive knowledge about lithium batteries in RVs. **Understanding the Battery Types** In RVs, there are mainly three types of batteries: Lead Acid, AGM, and Lithium. Lead Acid is the oldest, requiring maintenance and being the heaviest. AGM offers slight improvements with no maintenance, but Lithium is the real game-changer. Lighter and more efficient, a single lithium battery can replace multiple lead acid batteries, providing more power and a longer lifespan. **Why Switch to Lithium?** Lithium batteries are compact and can have an impressive lifespan of 12 years, courtesy of their 3000 cycles. They charge faster than lead acid batteries and are far more efficient. Although the initial cost is higher, the long-term savings are substantial. Moreover, lithium batteries require minimal maintenance, and Eva assures us that storing them fully charged is ideal. **Installation Insights** If your RV was built before 2019, you might need to upgrade the battery charger to accommodate lithium batteries. Newer RVs should have lithium-compatible systems, making installation straightforward. Another perk of lithium is its safety; these batteries are sealed and can even be installed inside your RV, freeing up space and adding security. **Eco-friendly and Safe Choices** Lithium batteries not only enhance performance but also contribute to sustainability by reducing waste compared to traditional batteries. **Final Thoughts** Are you on the fence about switching to lithium? Consider your camping style and power needs. Whether you’re off-grid for a few days or a few weeks, lithium batteries enhance your experience. For RVers looking for reliability and efficiency, lithium is the way to go. For additional resources and guidance, visit Go Power’s website and explore their interactive tools for your RV. Thank you, Eva Mitic, for joining us and providing valuable insights. Stay connected with Girl Camper online and check out our upcoming events. Until next time, happy camping! Solar Made Simple: RV Power Solutions With Go Power's Eva Mitic

On this episode of the Girl Camper Podcast, Lesa McDermott visits with  Eva Mitic, the marketing manager from Go Power Solar. If you’ve been contemplating adding solar to your RV or have questions about what it can do, this podcast episode is your go-to resource. Eva breaks it down on what what equipment is needed and makes it easy to understand. **Advantages of Solar Power** Eva highlights the key benefits of solar power for RVs—it’s a renewable resource offering free, quiet energy from the sun. Unlike noisy generators, solar systems let you enjoy nature without distractions. They also extend battery lifespan, saving costs over time by reducing campsite hookup fees and eliminating the need for gasoline. **Choosing the Right Solar Setup** Determining the right solar setup depends on your RV’s roof space and power needs. For small power requirements like charging phones, minimal solar panels suffice. However, more significant systems are necessary for appliances like residential refrigerators. Interestingly, advancements in lithium batteries are making it more feasible to power air conditioners using solar energy. **Tips for First-Time Solar Buyers** Eva advises starting small and expanding as needs grow. It’s crucial to use appropriate wiring to optimize energy transfer. For portable solar kits, securing them is important to prevent theft. When considering investment, users should weigh nightly campground fees versus long-term savings and freedom. **Maintenance and Lifespan** Regular maintenance includes cleaning panels and checking connections. A typical solar panel lasts over 25 years, while charge controllers last around five years. Battery lifespans vary, with lithium batteries offering the longest duration. **Conclusion** Eva wraps up with practical advice for winterizing your RV solar system and emphasizes the importance of investing in quality solar components. This  episode reinforces solar energy’s role in enhancing RV experiences, providing freedom and sustainability. For additional resources and guidance, visit Go Power's website and explore their interactive tools for sizing the perfect solar system for your RV.  Watch for a future episode on lithium batteries with Lesa & Eva and more tech advancements on the Girl Camper podcast! Special thank you to this episode’s sponsors:  Progressive Insurance & Curt Manufacturing.  Be sure to check out Curt’s Echo Mobile Brake Controller. Looking to start small with solar?
