Teen & Youth Suicide Awareness & Prevention with Suzi Freeman

Teen & Youth Suicide Awareness & Prevention with Suzi Freeman

TRIGGER WARNING: This week’s episode is about the sensitive topic and themes around youth suicide awareness & prevention.

The number one cause of death of youth today is suicide. And although boys may have a higher death rate from suicide attempts, girls have a higher attempt rate. As adults who work closely with girls in K-12, we have a special role in recognizing warning signs and helping girls see another way out when it feels like there isn’t one. Our guest today, Suzi Freeman, works with both teens and their adults to build resilience, healthy coping mechanisms, and suicide prevention.

Suzi offers suicide prevention certification classes for parents and adults working with kids, and she’s offered us two great NO-COST options to get as many of us certified as possible:

    For a self-paced course (100% free): https://www.suzifreeman.com/suicide-prevention
Use code SCOUTS to waive the registration fee

    OR

Join us live (**I’ll be there!!!**) for a Troop Leader Experience certification course + Q&A (100% free):
    https://www.suzifreeman.com/service-page/live-qpr-certification-virtual
Use code ScoutsLive to access and book that for free.

Recruitment 101 & Online Marketing Basics

Recruitment 101 & Online Marketing Basics

This week I’m here inspired by a question asked in the Facebook group by Christin. She wanted to know:

Our Council is pushing for a spring enrollment campaign.  What community service-unit level recruitment events have you seen work well?

In this episode, I shared some basics about recruitment in general (because even though that’s not what I set out to record today, it felt necessary to establish a baseline response), a direct answer to this question about the recruitment events I know are really popular in my area, and also my ideas and thoughts about a HUGE missed opportunity for recruitment: online marketing.

I’m a business owner, and online marketing is literally how I’ve built my multi-six figure business. I started from 0 as a solopreneur service provider, and now I have a team across multiple states and a pretty sizable book of business getting remarkable results. So, I know a thing or two about online marketing. I also know quite a few really spectacular online marketing experts who will have even more thoughts and insight into how we could potentially incorporate online marketing into our recruitment efforts, if that sounds interesting to you.

Did this episode give you ideas? Or did it just give you more questions? Do you want to hear even more about this? I would be happy to do some additional episodes digging more into these types of ideas for innovative recruitment efforts if it’s interesting. Let me know in the Facebook group or send me an e-mail at girlscoutpodcast@gmail.com

The Pressure to Hit Every Meeting Out of the Park and Making Girl Scouts Your Entire Personality with guest, Maggie P. of GSNORCAL

This week I’m joined by ANOTHER guest! I know how much you love these episodes. My guest this week is Maggie, multi-level troop leader in Northern California. She runs a Daisy/Brownie troop, but not in the typical way you might be thinking.

If you sometimes feel like all you want to talk about is Girl Scouts and it’s become your entire personality, you’re going to love this interview.

Playful Leadership and Emotional Intelligence for Girls & Adults with Betsaida Lebron

Playful Leadership and Emotional Intelligence for Girls & Adults with Betsaida Lebron

My guest today is Betsaida Lebron from ImprovEQ. Her framework for corporate leadership about infusing play, empathy, and bravery fits right into Girl Scouts, so I knew she would be a great guest with incredible insights to share and she does not disappoint in this episode. You are going to love her explanation about what emotional intelligence means and why it’s important for girls, tips and suggestions (including some activities) for helping girls build their emotional intelligence and confidence, how we can be playful leaders ourselves when leading our troops, and how we can spice up those long boring monthly leader meetings.

Brownie Troop Leader ,

Essential podcast if you run a troop!!

Without this podcast, I would be lost as a troop leader. I learned how to really run a troop, drastically reduce my stress and conquer my own fears around planning and asking for help. I love this show so much. I started from the beginning and listened to the episodes from day one during my commute. 5 stars!!

Helpful, Informative, and Inspiring

I am a second year troop leader with now 1st Grade Daisies and, even with 5 years of experience as a girl and a super supportive service unit, I still feel like a complete newbie. There is just so much to know and understand about being a troop leader! Enter: the troop leader experience podcast. It is very clear that this is a labor of love for the host. She cares deeply about girls and about people in general providing hundreds of episodes on any and every topic. For example, I just downloaded tons of cookie related episodes as we move towards cookie season.

It feels so good to be reassured that I am not alone in wanting to provide an amazing experience for these girls and it is awesome to learn from such experienced leaders like our host across the country. I have started a note on my phone with all of the cool ideas and threads I can pull to improve my troop meetings, year planning, and cookie season experience.

Thank you for your amazing work on this podcast! I had truly inspired me to be the best leader I can be for these girls.
