    Samantha Lurie Bio:

    Samantha Lurie, is the Executive Director and co-founder of the Show Me The World Project, a nonprofit dedicated to providing life changing educational opportunities to students from under-resourced communities at home and abroad.Under her leadership, the Show Me The World Project has grown to support over 150 students and 24 educators across 8 schools. Samantha has led the evolution of, The Show Me The World Project into a comprehensive program that integrates science, leadership, cultural immersion, and entrepreneurship.

    Previously, she worked as a Special Education teacher at Vashon High School and the Dean of Students. In 2015 she was named St. Louis Public Schools Special Education Teacher of the Year. She is also a Teach For America (TFA) St. Louis alum and previously served as the Managing Director of Alumni Network Leadership for TFA Metro Atlanta. Samantha champions the philosophy that every student deserves a global classroom, transforming not just educational outcomes but lives.

    Dr. Chris McNeil is the esteemed Director of Career and Technical Education at Kansas City Public Schools. With a diverse background as a principal at every educational level from elementary to high school, Chris is deeply committed to shaping the future of education. He stands out not only for his innovative leadership in career and technical education but also for his remarkable community contributions.

    Recently crowned as the Wahl Man of the Year, Chris has been recognized for his extraordinary community work, earning a Grand Prize of $20,000 and an additional $5,000 for his charity, 'Books and Barbers.' This unique initiative reflects his passion for youth mentorship, offering haircuts, books, and guidance to elementary students within the district.

    Under his leadership, KCKPS has been a frontrunner in providing college- and career-ready curriculum, starting from middle school and extending to high school. The programs, in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation Real-World Learning Initiative, are designed to ensure that each student graduates with at least one market value asset, preparing them for successful careers or higher education pursuits.

    Bios:


    Dale Leibforth graduated from ETHS in 1993 and started working there in 1997.  After spending 17 years in the classroom, he spent the last 10 years serving as Math Department Chair.  He also serves as the Early College Success Manager, working with our Dual Credit and AP programs. Dale recently received the 2023 Illinois Council Of Teachers Of Mathematics (ICTM) Lee Yunker Mathematics Leadership Award.



    Erin Slade is in her 11th year teaching. She coteaches Algebra in Entrepreneurship with Chris Manila, who piloted the course in 2015, and Algebra in Coding with Jodi Alperstein who brought the course to ETHS from Bootstrap Algebra in 2021. Both courses teach Algebra 1 content through their respective disciplines. She also teaches Data Science, which was developed at Stanford and improved by her colleagues Sarah Apfelbaum, Neva Curry, and Niraj Javia. 



    Maryjoy Heineman has been co-teaching Geometry in Construction at ETHS with Matt Kaiser since the program began in 2013. They, along with this year's Geometry in Construction students, are building the 9th affordable home for their community. Geometry in Construction is a specialty course that originated at Loveland High School in Loveland, Colorado. Students learn geometry through the lens of building a home.

    Currently, Dr. Garrison Duncan serves as the Executive Vice President of the Competency-Based Education Network, the nation's largest non-profit organization devoted to focusing education on what learners know and can do. These models allow institutions to advance a truly learner-centric model that creates new, more equitable opportunities for economic mobility. Over her career, Amber has led work in competency-based education, learning frameworks, assessment, credential recognition, digital learner records and open data standards, as well as quality assurance.
