“God is interested in being in an exclusive relationship with his people. When we mess around with money or sex or power or our jobs or careers… anything that we look to to give us security, none of those things are going to work. It’s God and God alone.”

[4:00] How has the culture of emotions changed in students throughout the years?
[7:04] Embrace and control your emotions.
[8:32] God doesn't really have emotions, right?
[10:57] This idea that God is an “unmoved mover”...there’s a logic to it, it just doesn't fit the Word of God.
[11:54] There is a tendency when we see something in the word of God that doesn’t fit our theology, we’re more likely to say it’s figurative. Whereas, when things in the Bible fit our theology, we say this is a text that’s really serious and more literal and this is one we teach a lot.
[12:18] I certainly want to talk about the sovereignty of God and the power of God. But in a misguided attempt to represent the God of Scripture, I’m not honoring God, I’m distorting his character.
[13:00] Which emotions of God are we most in need to learn about?
[16:25] The trajectory of Scripture is: tears will be turned to laughter, and sorrow will be turned to joy.
[17:04] One of the places in culture that can be a challenge around joy is that it can be translated for people as naivete.
[18:08] Sorrow can be so sincere and also be used manipulatively in a disingenuous way.
[23:40] Spark My Heart by Aaron Strumpel
Thru dangers toils and snares I run, to you my God oh brilliant Son
When all seems lost prone to dismay, you hold me fast you still my sway
Tho enemies surround me now, they can not stop, they know not how
The light, the warmth, of your embrace, you spark my heart you fuel my race
[25:00] He that is (not) jealous is not in love?
[27:00] "For you shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” (Exodus 34:14)
[27:45] “Jealousy in romance is like salt in food. A little can enhance the savor, but too much can spoil the pleasure and, under certain circumstances, can be life-threatening.” ― Maya Angelou
[29:20] You are jealous about things that are rightfully yours. You are envious about things that are not rightfully yours.
[29:43] Make up your mind, Paul!
Love is not jealous. (1 Corinthians 13:4)
I am jealous for you with the jealousy of God himself. I promised you as a pure bride to one husband—Christ. (2 Corinthians 11:2)
[30:48] Read the book and find out…
Why is it important to remember that we don’t deserve God’s love?
What’s the difference between love and compassion?
Rebuke is a non negotiable command within the command to love others.
[32:15] Joy in the wrong place is idolatry.
[33:10] Heaven has a party when a lost person is found, when a sinner repents. God delight in His Creation and in His Salvation.
[36:20] closing words: Let's be the people of God who appropriately express and enter into our emotions that God created.
