Going Beyond The Predictable

In Your Corner

Going beyond the predictable means generating a future that was not going to happen anyway. To create a future that was not going to happen anyway, an individual has to go beyond what they already know or have done before. Jono Brent and Marc Pringle of In Your Corner (IYC) talk with guests about circumstances that have shaped them, and how they used these as catalysts for growth. We unpack what going beyond their predictable looks like for them, and learn how we can all shift who we are, what we know, and what we do to create an extraordinary future that goes beyond our predictable.

Going Beyond Always Being the Responsible One with Jennifer Dale

Jennifer Dale was born in Taiwan and moved to Christchurch, New Zealand, at the age of 10, where she and her family navigated the many challenges of adapting to a new culture and way of life. From early on, Jennifer learned how to be responsible - for herself and for others. Now, as a mum, wife, daughter, colleague, sister and friend, she’s exploring a new version of herself: what it means to not always be the responsible one - to make space for herself, to let go when it matters, and to recognise when responsibility no longer serves her or those she leads. In this episode of Going Beyond the Predictable, Jennifer joins hosts Jono Brent and Marc Pringle to explore identity, the cost of over-responsibility, and the quiet courage it takes to choose something different. If you've ever felt like the one holding it all together, this conversation is for you. --- This podcast is by In Your Corner - a group of strategic advisors and coaches who support organisations to close the gap between strategy and execution. Stepping Beyond the Fear with Dame Noeline Taurua

We are fortunate to have the powerhouse, Dame Noeline Taurua, as the first guest on our podcast. Dame Noeline (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whātua) became the Silver Ferns Coach in 2018. In just 11 months, she led the Silver Ferns from a medal-less finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Games to world champions at the2019 Netball World Cup. During this period, she balanced dual roles as head coach of both the Silver Ferns and Sunshine Coast Lightning. In the 2020 New Year Honours, Noeline was appointed a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to netball.  While Noeline’s coaching success and many accolades are highly impressive - if youlistened to our first podcast, you will know that we aren't here to talk to our guests about their achievements. Instead, our aim is to discover what they had to confront and who they had to become in order to generate a future beyond the predictable.   We talked to Noeline about: Stepping forward and speaking up despite the natural tendency to withdrawHer childhood experiences and identity and how these show up todayGoing from looking for the perfect 'recipe' for how to coach to understanding who she is and creating her own styleCommitting without knowing how - like starting a franchise sports team from scratch in a new country.Connecting to possibility when the outcome isn't clearHer advice on going beyond your predictable  Stick around for a short reflection at the end on what we learned from the conversation.   And lastly - a note from Noeline: "While I am guilty of not mentioning my family much in the podcast, they are my rocks, and couldn't have achieved any of this without them."   We hope you enjoy it!
