    Click or Clash Relationships

Dr. Suzanne Vickberg, a social personality psychologist and co-author of “Business Chemistry”, joins Deidre and JG to share “wiZdoms” on navigating relationships within the workplace and in our personal lives.   Curious why you click with some people, yet clash with others? While it’s great to click and difficult to clash, there is a way to find a common ground and establish harmony from our differences.   This episode, “Dr. Suz” shares her insights from her book “Business Chemistry”, in which she identifies four different working styles that are common amongst people in the workplace. The key to avoiding clash relationships is to acknowledge these differences and learn to appreciate them. If you’re looking to strengthen relationships with people from all walks of life and even cope with stress, Dr. Suz is here to help us all.   WIZDOMS ON CLICK OR CLASH RELATIONSHIPS   * The pioneer, guardian, driver, and integrator. These are the names of the four main working styles in Dr. Suz’s “Business Chemistry”. Creating strong relationships starts here, by understanding these differences.   * Adapting & Flexing. Your working style is not a concrete definition of who you are. You can and should adapt and change your style to better work with the people around you.   * Havoc vs Harmony. Does it seem impossible to create harmony with the people that you clash with? Well, rest assured, it is possible to avoid havoc if you acknowledge your differences and play to your strengths while learning from others.   * Avoid the “why can’t you do it this way?” mentality. Thinking your idea is the only answer could lead to more tension. Instead, value how different perspectives can actually help! You might be surprised!   * Communication & Engagement. Building strong relationships is all about discussion. The more you understand about the people that you work with, the easier it is to find success.   * When stress factors in. We all experience stress differently and at different magnitudes. Considering how stress impacts us differently can help you overcome your differences and work better together!   * Think outside the box. We can all learn from each other. Don’t be afraid to take some lessons from everyone. Jump in and see what you can learn, you never know what you might walk away with!   LISTENERS: How will you strengthen your relationships? Inventing Your Reinvention

Angelique Miles, once a music industry power house, joins Deidre and JG to share “wiZdoms” and insights on reinventing yourself when you simply have no other choice.   While change is natural, what happens when we are uprooted and forced to adapt to a new reality? We often dream of a certain future for ourselves, but when we are met with the unexpected, it can be challenging to find success again.   This episode, Angelique Miles joins GutwiZdom to share her inspiring story about climbing back to the top after her success in the music industry came to a sudden halt. Overcoming fear and many obstacles, Angelique transformed her lifestyle and took advantage of the opportunity to reinvent herself to find happiness and success.   WIZDOMS TO INVENT YOUR REINVENTION   * Resilience, Reliance, & Renewal. These are the three emotional components to identify that help us the most when we are forced to reinvent ourselves.   * Find who you can really trust. In the midst of the storm, find your blessings and identify the people that will truly be there to support you.   * Remember who you really are. While change and transitioning can be intimidating, don’t lose sight of what makes you, you!   * Believe in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself to change, who will? Have the power to know that you can, and you will, reinvent yourself, and find new success. Many materials things can be taken away from you. However, your talent, your YOU, cannot!   * Have faith in the universe. Everything happens for a reason, so don’t lose sight of the light at the end of the tunnel.   * Plan your exit. Change will happen; be prepared to adapt and find a new path. You might even want to think about the worst-case scenario and plan for it, while things are awesome!   * Grab the bull by the horns. Have the courage and the confidence to face the challenges that come your way. Get out there and start acting on what makes you happy! Taking action is always a great remedy to stare fear down.  Take control of what you can!   LISTENERS: How will you invent your reinvention? Secrets to Stopping Self-Sabotage

Lisa Lieberman-Wang joins Deidre and JG to share “wiZdoms” on the secrets to squelch self-sabotaging behavior.   Sometimes it seems that we just can’t get out of our own way.  We believe we want to achieve certain goals, and can often sabotage ourselves with behaviors that will prevent us from achieving the things we say we want!    Joining GutwiZdom in this episode, Lisa Lieberman-Wang, a relationship and emotional breakthrough expert and the author of the bestselling book, FINE to FAB, Lisa shares her incredible story about how she quit her self-sabotaging behaviors, and how you can too!   Download your free copy of Lisa’s E-book here and listen to the full episode for more great “wiZdoms”!   WIZDOMS FOR STOPPING SELF-SABOTAGE * First ask yourself this question. Do you want help? If you want to stop self-sabotaging, you must be open to getting help. * Stop thinking you’re not good enough. If we feel we’re not good enough, we will find things in our life to support that belief. This all starts at a very young age, like a seed being planted, but we can change those beliefs! * Be“lie”f. We believe the lies we tell ourselves, and maybe the lies others have told us about ourselves. We say, “I can’t do that” or “this is too hard” but these beliefs may actually be false! * Acknowledge your fear or doubt. When we simply change one self-sabotaging behavior, and replace it with another self-sabotaging behavior, we’re not getting to the root cause and eliminating our own worst enemy – ourselves! For example, if we want to lose weight and we change our habit of eating out more than 1x per week, that’s not going to help us achieve our goal of losing weight if we still binge eat cookies at midnight. * Take inventory of life’s lessons and beliefs. What is it that made us think this way about ourselves? Change the model and create new lessons. * Stop waiting for perfection. If we wait for perfection, we will take no action. If we take no action we will always fail. * Make peace, practice gratitude and celebrate! Gratitude is not just an attitude, it’s a behavior and something that can be practiced every single day.  If you’re interested in the GutwiZdom Journal of Gratitude, email Deidre at:  dk@gutwizdom.com for your gift!   LISTENERS: How will you stop self-sabotaging? Unsafe Thinking!

Author Jonah Sachs joins GutwiZdom to talk about his new book “Unsafe Thinking” and provides inspiration and a practical guide on how to truly think out of the box when we feel like we can’t, or don’t know how to. In work and in life, we are constantly faced with rapid change. Some of us respond creatively to adapt to the change, and even help with creative break-throughs to make the change happen.  Yet, others feel more comfortable in the space of “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it”   Jonah Sachs, author of “Unsafe Thinking: How to be nimble and bold when you need it most” and the co-founder of Free Range Solutions, a brand and innovation company, joined Deidre and JG this week to chat about how anxiety can actually be fuel for creativity, as well as when to trust your gut instinct and when to challenge it.   Jonah interviewed over 100 rule-breaking innovators to find out what makes them tick, including a rock climber, a chess grandmaster, and an NBA coach, just to name a few and he shared some of his amazing “wiZdoms” with us. Check them out below and listen to our episode for more!   WIZDOMS FOR UNSAFE THINKING   * Embrace the change. When the world changes around us and challenges us to change, we tend to act and think the same way we always have.   * Practice self-awareness. If we decide to look inward and challenge ourselves first, we use different parts of our brains and come up with ideas we may not have thought of before. You have to change yourself before you can change the world.   * Challenge your intuition. Our intuition gets really good if you are making the same decisions over and over again, but if you change things up it’s hard for your intuition to adapt.   * Better leaders are humble. Leaders are usually thought of as decisive, someone who always knows what to do, someone you want to follow. We are actually more likely to follow leaders that are humble and have more questions than answers.   * Try something new. We become specialized in our routines. Do something you’re terrible at and change up the routine to become more creative. Push yourself to grow a little bit by trying something that you are interested in, but might not be very good at. Get out of your comfort zone!   * Find a role model. Role models are so important because they change the way we think and we can identify with a person rather than an idea.   LISTENERS: How will you practice unsafe thinking? Share your experiences and “wiZdoms” with us! Either leave us a voicemail at 646-653-9278 or send us an email. We may talk about it - or we may even talk with YOU - on the air!   You can learn how we help job seekers, employers, and employees by visiting PEAR Core Solutions and  My Success Platform.

    Respect in the Workplace!

David Freedman of PEAR Core Solutions joins Deidre and JG to share how disrespect in a workplace can turn into harassment. Sexual harassment & discrimination in our workplaces is at epidemic proportions and a hostile workplace environment, which includes sexual harassment, is no longer being shoved under the proverbial corporate carpet.   David Freedman, Vice President of Human Capital Management at PEAR Core Solutions, shares his “wiZdoms” on what we all need to know as employees and employers about being respectful and avoiding a harassment claim.   Deidre also shares with us a very personal story in this episode. You’ll really want to hear this one!   DAVE'S WORKPLACE WIZDOMS   “Incivility is a gateway drug to harassment” -Sharon Masling, Chief of Staff at the EEOC   * No jokes allowed? Isolated incidents of teasing or offhand comments can happen at work. It becomes a problem when the frequency and severity leads to a hostile or offensive environment or adverse employment decisions   * If someone makes you uncomfortable, address it with the person. Do it respectfully, do it privately, and don’t do it when you’re angry.   * Use your empathy: Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes, “what would I have said?”   * Know how to communicate. Use the manners your parents (hopefully) taught you. Listen more than you speak. Take a breath before you say something in a disrespectful tone.   * Recognize what disrespect is not. A tough boss with high expectations or one that asks you to do more than what is in your job description is not harassment.   LISTENERS: Do you work in a disrespectful environment? Have you ever experienced or witnessed harassment? Share your experiences and “wiZdoms” with us! Either leave us a voicemail at 646-653-9278 or send us an email. We may talk about it - or we may even talk with YOU - on the air!   You can learn how we help job seekers, employers, and employees by visiting PEAR Core Solutions and  My Success Platform.

Innovation through quirkiness with guest Dr. Melissa Schilling

Dr. Schilling, one of the world’s leading experts on innovation, joins us in-studio to share the science behind the traits, and quirks, that increase the likelihood of success in breakthrough innovation. We learn about the commonalities of some of the greatest breakthrough innovators – from Albert Einstein to Steve Jobs to Elon Musk, and what it is about them that’s different than a typical innovator…and what patterns they have in common.   Dr. Melissa Schilling, one of the world's leading experts on innovation, joined Deidre and JG in the GutwiZdom studio to discuss how true innovation – and the ability to innovate again and again – comes from allowing your personal, social, and emotional quirkiness to break through.   Dr. Schilling is the John Herzog Family professor of management and organizations at New York University's Stern School of Business, and one of the world's leading experts on innovation. Her latest book, Quirky, explores the themes we discussed in this episode. She has also authored the textbook, Strategic Management of Technological Innovation (now in its fifth edition) and coauthored of Strategic Management: An Integrated Approach (now in its 12th edition).   WIZDOMS ON HOW TO BE A BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATOR * Be independent: Don’t worry about your thoughts seeming “normal.” If you allow yourself to think differently than others, you may find yourself thinking more innovative thoughts. * Don’t be afraid to be contrarian: You don’t have to be a jerk, but be brave enough to say, “I disagree” and then present your reasoning. Avoid “going along to get along.” * Be open to new experiences and ideas: Allow yourself to feel uncomfortable, since this is how you stretch your experiences, take in new ideas, and come up with your own innovative ideas. * Follow through: The best ideas are nothing without working hard to make things happen. * Be idealistic. The best innovators have idealistic goals, and if those goals resonate with others, they will rally around the innovator to help make those goals a reality. * Take time be alone: Your best ideas may come when you spend time alone to think. This also goes for children; don’t be afraid to let children spend un-structured time and to be alone – without technology/screens.   IN THE WORKPLACE: * Brainstorming groups don’t work: Let employees work on their own to come up with innovative ideas. Then, bring them together to share their ideas. * Motivate with idealism: Your employees will respond better to big, idealistic goals rather than goals that result in cash rewards.     LISTENERS: Are you an innovator? Are you quirky? Do your quirks help you to innovate? Share your experiences and “wiZdoms” with us! Either leave us a voicemail at 646-653-9278 or send us an email. We may talk about it - or we may even talk with YOU - on the air! Generation Z, Part 2: Think like a Gen-Z’er

Jonah Stillman returns to the GutwiZdom studio! Born into the “Z” generation, Jonah - a recent high-school graduate and co-author of “Gen Z @ Work” - joins Deidre and JG to enlighten us on how the world is changing, and what we need to do about it. Move over Millennials!  Generation “Z” is here, and they are the empowered generation! Generation Z is currently the largest population segment ever – larger than the Baby Boomer, Gen X, and Millennial generations. Times have changed and Generation Z is beginning to assert themselves and their values in BIG ways – they’re completely transforming workplaces, turning higher education on it’s head, and have dramatically different buying behaviors!   The last time Jonah Stillman joined us in the GutwiZdom studio, he was joined by his father talking about their book Gen Z @ Work.  Jonah joined Deidre and JG for this amazing episode to further explore exactly how different Gen Z really is, straight from a Gen Z’er himself! For more information about Jonah and his book, visit www.genzguru.com   WIZDOMS TO THINK LIKE GEN Z   * Learn to learn from failure. Gen Z is not afraid to fail because you can always learn from your mistakes!   * Take a gap year. Taking the time to find out who you really are is important to Gen Z. They are taking gap years to get internships and work experience to find out what they really like to do instead of jumping right into college.   * Learn “just in time”, not “just in case”. The way Gen Z learns is so different than previous generations. They can learn everything they need online and in minutes.   * Physical vs. digital. Gen Z doesn’t have a preference about the physical or digital world. They don’t care about buying products online or in-store, what does matter to them is speed, convenience, price, and getting what they want in the most efficient way possible.   * Be open minded. Embrace the fact that Gen Z is different and be open to the changes they’re creating!   LISTENERS: What do you think about Generation Z? Share your experiences and “wiZdoms” with us! Either leave us a voicemail at 1-646-653-9278 or send us an email. We may talk about it - or we may even talk with YOU - on the air!   You can learn how we help job seekers, employers, and employees by visiting My Success Platform and PEAR Core Solutions.
